My 1998 3.0CL build. 300whp 4 speed auto project

I picked up this car for a great price. Car has no rust and is in good shape few dings here and there. Plan is to make a daily driver with this car.

Im going to be doing a complete J32A and 5 speed auto tranny swap into this car along with the triptronic shifter in time. For now 4 speed auto over haul

Well tranny parts are here some pics

Ebay headers.

J32A2 I picked up for $200 bucks

good start. is there any way to build the 4 speed transmission so they aren't so prone to failure or is it just a "it is what it is" type of thing?

I'm assuming the 5spd gearbox fits in the place of the 4? What controls the shifting of the auto tranny? The ecu?

Yes the 5 speed bolts up but you need the engine wiring harness for motor and tranny, shifter assembly with the sub harness. You will need the imobilizer ring with the ecu key. The ecu.

Im wanting to do this swap but the guy i was gonna buy the parts from just jacked his prices up so i told him to go fuck him self. I got another yard that i got the motor from and he has a 2003 TL type S in the yard and is waiting on weather or not another client takes the parts out. If not pull my own parts

awesome start. great to see someone actually getting to work and doing this instead of saying they're going to do it.

So to be clear, If my 4 speed goes on my 97 3.0 I can replace with a 5 speed auto with the proper parts?

It can't be that simple. Something has to tell tranny to shift to that new gear.

Those will yield about 20hp bro. Their quality has improved a LOT. They had weld issues. Are the Megan headers on ebay new?

They are, but for some reason they're listed for 99-02 tl/cl. When I entered the 97 3.0 it said not compatible. Wouldn't it fit 97-99 universally?

Be aware. headers wont help much w/o an exhaust. The gases will get choked up again leaving new header trying to squeeze back into that stock exhaust piping.

hey guys no prob post away.

The headers are cheap $50us dollar ones.

Now for the 5 speed swap you need the tranny wiring harness shifter and ecu and the key or a board to get rid of the imobilizer. Its not a easy task but its either that or a newer TL 6 spdd tranny with a J35 newer block lol
