Muffler Problem

I went to go get new tires and they noticed a small crack(hole) in my exhaust pipe. It's right under the back seat area and he said that it could lead to head aches since the leak would cause the CO to come into the car.

Is this true and is this a "emergency sitaution" to fix? i dont have much money and i dont want to pay. could this also be the reason for my muffler being a bit louder than normal? it's not too loud but it does sound like i have an intake, which i dont.

Thanks and please give me some suggestions. could i even fix it myself if i dont know much about cars? THanks!
