Maxima or CL 3.0

Hey everyone,

I'm in the market for a new car and for a while now I have loved the look of the 3.0 CL. However, the 1998/1999 Maxima SE is also quite good. My mod plans for the CL would be: Drop it, 18s, Intake, Headers, Exhaust, VAFC, WW Front Air Dam. With that and some tuning on the VAFC, could I stay with or maybe beat a 98/99 Maxima SE 5 speed?

Thanks,
Lance

I loved my Max. But I can tell you one thing, there are going to be more aftermarket parts for the CL, than for the Max.

Max is a very nice ride...& there are several sites now that specialize in Maxima parts...just about anything you can think of...very easy to find.

Superchargers, intake, headers, exhaust...

Why buy a Cl & mod it when you can pay the same for the Maxima? The mods on the Max will payoff 10 x better...over 200 hp...Trust me, I've had a 97 SE & 2 98 SE Auto's...2000 SE for a few months too. I got a BIG boost in hp by just adding the HKS intake.

i'm just playin, maxima's are ok. I just don't like the look. You could make the max a lot faster than the cl n/a. But the CL just looks way better. It's all up to you, do you want looks or performance? And also do you want 5-spd or auto??

I wouldn't be too quick to write off the Maxima (although I enjoy killing them ). The 1999 and older 5-speed models have 190 HP and 205 ft-lbs of torque and weigh about the same as the 2.2/2.3CL. The Maxima auto is a little heaver (of course).

Personally, I think the CL looks so much better.

It's just a matter of different needs for different folks. Neither is best/worst choice. I can certainly vouch for the Max's build quality though...very, very well put together.

I needed a four door when I owned mine, now I don't, so I own 2 CLS's. If the new Max wasn't so fukin piss-ugly, maybe I'd have bought one again...

my friend has a 98 maxima, black on black 5spd, and its' pretty quick, and its fuckin lasted, he beats the shit out of it and now its got over 160,000 miles......he bought it 3 years ago with 10,000 miles, so they can definently take abuse

I believe a 95-99 Maxima 5-speed would take a 3.0 Auto CL. I was looking at a 97 Maxima 5 speed SE before I found my CL. Very nice, decently fast cars that can take some abuse!

My wife drives a 2000 Maxima SE 5 speed. It's pretty fast and handles well, esp. on a twisty road. Performance parts are available, but not abundant (where have we heard that before?). We've had no mechanical problems after 40,000+ miles. I'm not crazy about the interior styling, but it's got a lot more room than my CL.

There's an forum site as well - http://www.maxima.org.

my boy got a 98se maxima...i cant see a 3.0CL beating it up...stock for stock...max is nice luxury...CL got that unique look...more max's compared to CL's...both reliable...its a toss up...my boys 98se (220 hp) destroys my 2.2...

I raced a 98-99 maxipad he had me off the line but I made him feel shitty by havin a car and half on him before the next light had me slow from around seventy on Comm. ave. If your lookin for four doors you'll have fun with a S4 Ive been roasted a couple times and they're relativly easy to "chip out" apparently.

Why did it "suck"?

Care to elaborate?
