Just Installed Some Silverstars Today....

I just got some Silverstar 9006s off ebay for $25 shipped and installed them. I got tired of trying to cut off the inner tabs on some 9005s. I also needed to get some better lighting fast. The stock setup really suck ass.

The light on the right side is from the Silverstars and the left is from the Wagner Britelites (made by Philips). I know the photo is kind of crappy b/c there's a bunch of junk on the wall, but the Silverstars are actually less bright than the Wagner-Philips. The 51W 9006 bulbs are going to generally put out about 1000 lumens no matter what, the only difference really is light color and light dispersion. The Silverstars do look more blue-white and what makes these better than the Wagner-Philips is the light pattern. The Silverstars do a better job of "spreading" the light around (I think this gives the illusion of better brightness from afar), although the "intensity" of the light is less than the Wagners. The Wagners and stock bulbs are actually brighter since the bulb is clear and not coated like most aftermarket bulbs such as these Silverstars. But the Wagners are more yellow and the bulb's light was too focused on the immediate area right in front of the car. The light was shorter too.

The bulbs definitely make driving at night easier and I actually see more of the road, though they are no HIDs. They are definitely not worth $50 and I have no idea how long they will last. I will still eventually go 9005, but it's a bitch cutting these tabs with an exacto knife. They should sell pre-modded 9005s. They'd certainly be brighter than anything out there since 9005s put out like 1700 lumens of light. I don't think I'd ever pay more than $25 for halogen light bulbs.

On another note, some of these newer cars have really good halogen systems. It's so sad that the newer Toyota Corollas have brighter lights than our CLs.

EXACTLY! bet even better is a small wire cutter typically found in a set of needle nose pliers.

Hmm....wire cutters eh? I'll try them. As for HIDs, yeah, I wanna get some. But I'll wait for them get even cheaper. I remember a while ago that they went for like $500, and now you can get them for like $300. I would go with a straight 9006 base bulb switch rather than go with projectors. Seems like too much work, although they look the best.

I also have no idea where a good place to place the ballasts and ground them. I still have the stock airbox, so it doesn't look like there is much space to place the ballast. I also don't feel like drilling holes in the airbox to install it.

If you look under the 9005, the tabs inside the plug. Here's a site to get a good tutorial:

http://www.legendtuner.com/

Go to the upgrades section. However, using the exacto knife is pretty tedious.

Yeah, HIDs are the best, but where should I mount and ground the ballasts....w/o drilling? Is the velcro some kits include strong enough to hold them?

There is always somewhere to mount it. Mine sits right next to the short ram intake the ballasts are pretty small...

Did you bolt it in, use velcro, or tie it down? Where did you ground it? Any pics?

it was a lil simpler for me...just used a pearing knife (cutco is some good shit) and chipped them shits right out no prob .....then went to 6 flags in jerz n got to test em out on the ride home...BIG difference wit the 9005 conversion
