Just checking in...new member

Well, I thought I'd introduce myself here, as I just purchased a 1998 Acura CL 2.3 w/ manual transmission with 182k, in black. I paid too much, it needs work, and it's slower than the car it's replacing (93 Prelude VTEC), but none the less I am excited about it!

I'll start off with replacing the front brakes and rotors (warped), and fixing the exhaust leak (wherever that may be). I may need to rebuild/replace a caliper as one side is showing significantly more wear than the other. I think it will need a clutch too, because the engagement point seems high, but that is for another day.

Other than that, I have some cleaning and some cosmetic issues to address, but thats true when you buy any used car thats this old.

Thanks for the greetings! I've already learned a little bit about this car from this site.

Brakes are from a 98-02 Accord, gauges are from a 94-97 Accord, and windows motors are from a 94-97 Accord (what, they had to pick the worst power windows they make? Ugh!)

What's everybody using for rotors? I am not looking for a slotted and dimpled EBC (like I have on the Prelude), but something that won't warp in 10k either. Suggestions? Cheap is good, very good, but not so cheap I am replacing them every couple of months.

My big issue, once I get the mechanicals taken care of is the interior. It's cloth. I wanted leather. Try finding a 98/99 CL with leather in black. Good luck! My guess is the cheapest way to switch is an eBay kit.

I guess I should let everybody know what my intentions are for the CL. It's a commuter, get me back and forth 26 miles each way, at least 5 days a week. With gas at $4+ a gallon, the 4cyl manual made the most sense. Plus its a Honda (Acura). On a similar note, I will have to take clients to lunch occasionally, so that's why I went with the CL.

Here's my immediate plans
Front brakes and rotors
Rear brakes and rotors (only if necessary)
Front caliper(s)
Fix exhaust leak (muffler?) - If a need a muffler, I am going as close to stock/quiet as I can get. Suggestions?

Down the road
Plus size wheels and tires (I drive on roads the make the moon look smooth, so that will factor into the decision)

Suspension - likely KYB's but a Tein kit is possible (right Marcus?)

Leather interior

Upgraded sound system (No subs, unless they take up zero space)

Well, now that you know more about me, my car, and my intentions than you ever wanted...I'll stop.

Thanks again!

high gas prices are one of the reasons why i went 1st gen CL instead of 2nd gen, even though they were a little over $2/gal when i got the car. but i cant argue with 30mpg.

also, in my opinion it is much easier to find a CL with leather instead of cloth. i guess the last guy that i remember on here that had cloth hasnt been on in a long time (xxatthegatesxx). trust me though, in the summer you won't regret getting the cloth. black car+black leather=ouch.

Can't PM yet...still waiting on the 15 time period. I plan on looking this weekend if I get the Accord bodywork finished.

I agree with the cloth being better in the summer, there's no doubt about that. However I do like the leather interior, and I plan on offsetting that with remote start for the car (yes, I know I have a manual. hehe) so the A/C will help cool me off.

Unless I am mistaken, that only applies to the 97 CL, not the 98 and 99's. I could be wrong though.

For the record, they're already warped...unfortunately.
