It's a great car, our family has gone through 3 of them (a couple accidents and trade-ins) and they are great. If you get a loaded Limited, it's one of the nicest "luxury" american SUVs with nice V8 power! I love my Jeep but obviously my CL-S is my favorite! It's one of the more powerful/faster mid-size SUVs out there.

We had a grand cher. limited and loved it. I would def. get one again except for the back seat leg room is pretty tight but i think you are going to find that with most SUV, oh the QX4 is much nicer

My Home Planet
I've had 2 jeeps (CJ and a cherokee) since I was 17 (I'm 25 now) and I still have the CJ. Both had there share of issues that were only particular to jeeps like the front and rear seals needed replacing and the CPS (crank positioning sensor) needed replacing. Great trucks though. Will go through anything and the frames are known for there strength. I think the newer ones may have some occasional electrical problems but nothing serious, just annoying.

My best friend has one. He loves it. The only problem he's had has been the rotors. His Jeep is about 3 years old and he had to have the front rotors replaced twice. Not covered under warrenty about $250.00 with a price break from the dealer.

so most everything that goes wrong should be covered under warranty right? What about the seals? I know that the breaks aren't but the transmission, transfer case etc. should be right?

take it from me..... it may not be worth purchasing.
now a lease... that's a possibility.
my brother works for DaimlerChrysler.... he works on
many of the electrical components... starters...etc.
and i have a few friends also in the engineering sector
and design.
the '99 models were decent... if you can find one not abused.
but '00 and newer.... they took alot of components out of the vehicle to save on production costs.
i am not making this up.
ever since benz merged.... or should i say.... took over chrysler.... the company has been losing money.
in short... all of the cash that chrysler had... was used by benz to increase their profits.
and the germans fired many many of the top heads at chrysler.
many layoffs too.
thus... i would not trust the cherokees.
my brother strongly recommended against getting a cherokee.
i hope this helped.
i can find out more info for you if you need.

Do you want your car to be in the shop every 5-10K miles to get a new tranny? Their tranny is known to be shit. Take it from me. I used to work at Carmax....the unfortunate thing was that I sold more Grand Cherokees than any other car. The worst part was that I never told them about the tranny problem. I had to get paid, ya know! On a side note, guess which car I sold the best for younger people who are looking for a sporty car but on the verge of luxury? hmm....CL anyone?

So a 99 would be ok? Wouldn't many of those problems be covered under an extended warranty? Just wondering, I was interested in the grand Cherokee Limited also, but I can only afford a 99 at the newest. Any more information would be appreciated, thanks for all the help.

LOL, I don''t care so much about the car being in the shop, just more that I don't want to have to drop a grand for a new tranny, if the warranty covers all that shit, then I am fine with that.

OK, another point to make...how many miles are on it currently? The powertrain warranty on those jeeps is only 56,000....and by now, there should be at least 36,000 miles on it. As gjr said: get a 4runner, pathfinder, or maybe even an esacpe....those things get great gas milleage (that was my selling point). Yes, they'll be more expensive but they will be well worth it. If you want more of a luxury SUV look more at a 2000 Ford Explorer Limited.

Burning Brakes
My brother-in-law is an independent mechanic and he will never, ever buy a Jeep. He claims that they are in his shop all the freakin' time, and that they are a pain to work on. Apparently nothing was done in the design to make service convenient, so labor costs are sky-high...
