Intake Q's

Go ahead, take the easy way out. Call me a noob because your join date is a year before mine, or because I have 2500 less posts than you. I'm sure your knowledge about engine performance must be top notch considering all you've done to that beast with the intake AND exhaust.

your 18, that classifies you as a
in life. It has nothing to do with join date and or post count. And my knowledge about engine performance has NOTHING to do with what I have done to my car. The stuff I want to do to my engine I cant afford, because I have a family to support. What I was getting at was the fact that a v8 mustang is going to get a lot more gain from an intake than our 4-6 cyl NA cars. You may need something a little better if you were FI. A v8 will make a lot more use of a high quality intake then ours will. But if you know anything about engines, im sure you knew that already. A v2 will give you at most 5hp. An ebay one will give you like 3-4. But if you put a K & N filter on it, that will bring you up to the same as a v2 for half the money.
If you wanna go ahead and spend 160 bucks on an intake that will give you ABOUT the same gain as an ebay one. Have fun. There is no point in spending the 160 bucks on something that will give you ABOUT the same gain as a 30 buck one. You could take that 130 bucks that you would save and get some pullies, which would give you more gains than an intake.
Asides from the filter, the only other difference is the construction materials. The AEM ones are not that thin aluminum that the ebay ones are. They are made of a thicker alluminum, which would keep the air a little cooler than just an ebay one. But it would not be enough to make any kind of difference.
Im not taking the easy way out now, eh?
You make some good arguments, which I was hoping for. I didn't come here looking for a flame war. My argument isn't that the V2 will give you the most bang for you buck, because it's price is clearly inflated. I know you can save money by going with the no-name and that you can make more power by spending that money on pullies if you don't have them already. I'm saying that the V2 is the best intake you can get for your car, even if it is only a 4 or 6 cylinder.
The V2 uses two different diameters and lengths of mandrel-bent piping to create multiple frequency sound waves to help carry more air to the inlet valves across the entire RPM range. This is what they advertize. There is more to it than slightly thicker alluminum. The link I posted is one users comparison after taking his cold air intake out and replacing it with the V2. He seems to think the difference is quite large.

Your right. The AEM is gonna be one of the best. But i would rather spend my money elsewhere. But if you are just doing basic bolt ons, an expensive intake is overkill.
