Intake people

Well I decided to make a new thread. Because "Appt with he mechanice tomorrow" has nothing to do with an intake haha.

Anywho (yes i said it --> anyways just doesnt get the job done lol ),

I was looking and searching for intake info. And it all came in liek 6 different directions haha. Everyone is like get the Ebay one with a K&N filter. No go with the AEM V2. Well shit haha. WTF do I kno lol. So Im making a thread for me lol.

Then some shit about you dont have to worry about puddles came up.. Wat do puddles have to do about anything.

I want something not expensive. And easy to install. I read the with the CAI intake u have to remove the filter box/resognator box. or something to that matter.

I need all the facts here folks.
Bare with me im a

Get an ebay short ram intake (SRI) with K&N filter... You'll be golden

Only worry about a puddle if you get a CAI which does go into the wheel well and the problem is it could hydrolock your engine.

yes a CAI install requites you to more-or-less remove the front bumper and all that stuff to get it into its place

yeah SRI is damned easy, the hardest part of the whole thing is taking the stock one off, and thats the same between SRI and CAI, so yeah

I've had my CAI for almost a year without a bypass valve. As long as you don't go plowing through big puddles you should have too many issues. The AEM website even says that driving in the rain is no big deal, just don't submerge the filter in water. But with my car lowered now I'm going to go out a buy a bv this weekend, don't want to take any chances.

I am also a n00b with all this moding as my 97 3.0 CL is my first car ever. Anywho, I was just searching and researching on Air Filters for the 3.0 and came with the same ebay results. Heres all that I found out about Air Filters. Someone correct my if i'm wrong!

CAI (Cold Air Intake) = Located in wheel well, If enough water goes in at the right place your engine will get hydrolocked. Not for rainy or flood prone places. Most HP increase of the two.

SRI (Short Ram Intake) = Located in engine bay. Sometimes loud hum from the resonator, Sometimes sounds like a UFO or a turbo! Least HP increase of the two.

Basically, don't get a CAI if you live in a flood prone area like me.. or get a Bypass Valve. (don't exactly know what that is) If it's reasonably dry where you live, CAI FTW!

Get one of those ebay CAI or SRI and put on a K&N filter. I would go with the chrome ones because the red one will stick out like a sore thumb in that beautiful gray/black engine bay of our 3.0's

This is a cold air with the bypass valve, the bypass valve requires either a 2 piece CAI or you to cut the CAI in the middle for it to work. The bypass valve is a valve that gets triggered if there is a loss of pressure coming from the tube. Meaning if your filter gets submerged in water, the bv "bypasses" the intake and draws air in through itself instead of the filter, eliminating the risk that you will suck water straight up like a straw. They are not infallable and haven't worked for everyone. I have tested mine against my will in 3 ft of standing water on a flooded road and it worked, but that doesn't mean they always will, but for me it did, and for the extra $50 it's worth it for piece of mind when having an air filter drawing air from that low to the ground. The BV is the gray cloth looking piece in the middle of the intake. cheers

Every new n00b that joins always starts an intake and an exhaust, and a plans for parts thread, it's like clock work If they searched, and read the beginner guide we wouldn't have this problem

It'll be good experience for you - I'm not very mechanically inclined (I'm better now), but an intake is a great way to get started on your modding journey.
