Installing a Headunit - 97 2.2 CL

Hello....I recently purchased a headunit for my car at best buy, where they offer free installation. Anyhow, they are telling me that my CL has a factory built in AMP...and it will require them to rewire the whole car to bypass the AMP, which will require 3 hours of labor and extra 100 dollars.

Is this a true statement or these guys just trying to hussle some money from me? I thought it would be as easy as buying a wire harness to install an headuint?

Thanks for the help.

Yes, the bose system has an amp in the trunk that has to be bypassed, however, that is BS about the time. It takes 30 minutes to bypass it at the amp. THere are wires going into the amp, and wires coming out. All they have to do is splice them to bypass the amp, not rewire the car. They can either figure out which wire is which from the radio to the amp and splice into the out bound to te speakers, or run new wires to the amp and splice into these:

LF Speaker - (+)blu/grn - (-)gry/blk at amplifier
RF Speaker - (+)red/grn - (-)brn/blk at amplifier
LR Speaker - (+)blu/yel - (-)gry/wht at amplifier
RR Speaker - (+)red/yel - (-)brn/wht at amplifier

I don't beleive the 2.2 came with the Bose amp so, yes, they are BSing you. We put a Pioneer HU in my son's '97 2.2 with no problem at all with the typical install.

The 2.2 doesn't have an amp to bypass. They're feeding you BS. :thumbsdn:

The only modification may be the harness which plugs into your h/u.

I think it depends on whether or not you have the premium sound system

I put in a HU and didnt even touch the amp...just plug in the harness and use the stock amp as my amp. Sound way better than the stock unit.
