installing headlight bulb - HELP!!!
installing headlight bulb - HELP!!!
Okay, so here's the story. I purchased low beam bulbs (9006 model) for my 99 3.0. I went to put them in yesterday and this is what happened.
I took the stock bulb out and when I went to place the new one in I couldn't get the bulb to go all the way in, in order for me to turn the bulb clockwise to lock in place. I tried to push the bulb in really hard but it wouldn't go all the way into the hole. I took the bulb out and compared it to the stock one. After noticing a difference with the circular plastic piece that holds the o-ring, I measured the two and found that the stock plastic piece was 1/16 of an inch smaller. And this is why the new bulb wouldn't fit all the way in.
Anyone else have this problem or am I doing something wrong. When I took a look at other 9006 bulbs, they all seem to be the same. Someone help me please.

If the base of the replacement bulb is different from the stock bulb then the replacement bulb is faulty. The quality of all 9006 bulbs is not equal. I suggest you simply toss the bulb that will not fit and get another one. Good quality bulbs, such as the Sylvania Xtravision, are only $10.00.
Be very careful not to touch the quartz capsule. If you do, even slightly or just momentarily, the bulb WILL fail prematurely.

As I stated above, it's the circular plastic piece that has the o-ring on it, right below the bulb, not the base. The base seems fine.
The bulb I purchased was from Philips, so I know it's a quality bulb.

Alight this may sound stupid but are you sure you're not putting it in the highbeam slot? When I put my lowbeam bulbs in the highbeam slot it felt like they were so close to lineing up but they didn't. Just something you might want to double check.
