Question Indicator Lights On like an X-MAS tree!!!

My check engine light (since 80k) and ABS indicator light (since 110k) have been on consistantly for a while. Both rotors/pads are new front and back (@ 120k). And the engine has been checked, and nothing comes up on the computer. My car runs fine, and brakes well for a car with 145k. My mechanic resets the lights, but they trip, to only go off within a mile of leaving. Anybody else have these lights on in your 2.2, 2.3 1997-1999 CL's??? Is there anyway to turn them off permently or fix the prob short of taking the dash off and removing the actually indicator light?

so they've taken the little computer into the car and checked for an error code? if the light's turning off then turning back on again something's shooting out an error code...

I know with my car ive got a misfire on my cyl1 that I need to get taken care of.

yep. first it said it was the exhaust. Taking I had a leak from the catback, and my muffler was hosed, I fixed it, paid 500.. They turned the light off, I drove off, it turned back on, brought it back for another test, no error codes, nothing...

For the abs, I'm told that you can top off your brake fluid, (fill past the fill line) and this usually helps the triggering to stop. Otherwise, check the codes, I just replaced a wheel speed sensor for $300 and it triggered right after I got down the road. Also, if your brakes work fine, and you're not worried about ABS, you can yank the fuse, and the light will go away, or try the brake fluid, I will be trying it this weekend, after I pick my car up 2morrow with it's new tranny

Thanks, I talked to the regional manager, and he said that he, and a couple of the techs took it on test drives, and said they were "happy with the results"

Can't wait to feel a smooth shift.

You and i have very similar scenarios.

I replaced the O2 Sensors, EGR Valve and Plugs to the tune of about $800 and still the CEL glows. The "mechanic" (and I use that term loosely right now) believes that there is carbon buildup in my system and it will take another 3-4 hours of labor to clean it out. Any believers?
MY ABS light also was on and they said they inspected my brake system and said it looked excellent....When I added fluid the light went away but comes back after about 20 minutes of driving.

Don't pay them to clean out your carbon build up. Get some seafoam, and do it yourself. There's a number of how to write ups on here that you can search for, or just go to the do it yourself / faq forum on the main 1st gen forum page, and there's a nice do it yourself guide written by ajtcl. G'luck

Been a while

Believe it or not Acura has a 120,000 mile recall warranty on the emissions systems on the 97 CL's. I actually took it to McDavid Acura in Dallas Texas and they were awesome. Fixed me right up, said "no charge" and handed me the keys. Thanks!

Too bad I already got ripped off for about $800 from AutoDoc in Houston. Car runs like it was new and I get about 3 extra mpg
