Exclamation I'm a noob - Rough idle..Please Help!!

Hey guys,

Im a noob..I bought a 97 3.0CL about a month and a half ago. It was driving fine and then just in the past couple weeks ive had a rough idle at stop lights and sometime a little bit of jerking when driving on the highway around 80kmph.

The engine light is on and 4 Codes came up: P1300,P1399, P0304 and P0302 - ALL misfire codes. I dont know what to do. I've already done the list below and can't figure out what else to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I've done:
-O2 sensors (both)
-spark plugs and wires
-distributor
-distributor cap and rotor
-radiator
-battery
-map sensor

After all this i still can't figure it out. any suggestions please? Thanks guys!

From what I've read you may need a valve adjustment. Im not a mechanic or anything, just did some searching.

The other problem I'm coming across with those codes seems to be injectors, but the fact that it's misfiring in multiple cylinders leads me to believe it may be the valves need adjusting. If the valve clearances aren't correct it can cause the engine to misfire.
Again, not a mechanic, just found some stuff online.

Thanks Eric98Cl2.3! any feedback is helpful! I will look into that as well. Is it an easy DIY or would i need to bring it in to have it checked out?

It's something a certified mechanic should do, in my opinion. You have to pull the valve cover off and individually adjust them with a feeler gauge and a socket wrench, it doesn't look difficult.. but you definitley have to know what you're doing. Especially if it's your daily driver, I wouldn't take chances.
Hopefully you have a good mechanic you can trust and he can tell you if he thinks that's whats needed. It shouldnt take much for him to pull the valve cover off and tell you if it needs to be done. Taking the valve cover off takes no time at all. Good luck!

just noticed EGR valve isn't on your list, that's a possibility to check out as well.

Have you tested your sensors? I've seen sensors on their way out that haven't fully failed yet cause issues like this. Crank/Cam sensor, IAC sensor, Map sensor. But then again, they might show up on an ecu scanner. Worth a try though since you've exhausted all those possibilities.

Also did you do a smoketest to check for any unmetered air leaks? Also I've seen a stuck recirculatory air valve (forgot the real name) on the intake manifold cause this too, check it out.

Sounds to me that Eric could be correct, but there are many things that cause this. Spark plugs gapped incorrectly or not at all. Your IAC is clogged or needs to be replaced, most sensors. Won't make your car sputter, but try getting your fuel injectors cleaned and valves adjusted and check all of your vaccum hoses and most def check your EGR..

If the revs go up and down while you,re stopped you might want to check the tps throttle position sensor.
