Illumination wire on Alpines???

Have a 98 CL, which had the standard radio in it (not Bose). I hooked up my Alpine 9815 and it sounds great. I did not hook up the wire that goes into the Alpine for illumination. The directions don’t say much about it. Says it will dim the display when the headlights are turned on. Says to hook it up to the radio illumination wire. Where should this get hooked up to? Is it just a 12V signal that dims the display, or is it variable with the interior lightning dimmer. Any info would be great!!!

It just makes it dimmer when you turn your lights on. Like what happens to your clock and those displays, they just turn down a step. It doesn't make it work with the dimmer. I would just leave it unhooked because i like my stereo bright all the time. I don't want it to dim like that when the lights are on.
