My ignition is STUCK!!!! I got in my car stuck the key in the ignition and tried to turn it, IT WON"T TURN. It is seems to be jammed. I tried messing with the steering wheel, that did not help either. My key goes in and out fine. I tried another key as well. No luck. I know there is a recall for our ignition but that only covers the electronic componets.

I had my car towed to acura where it is now. The guy told me they are going to change the electronical part and see if that helps. If not they will replace it for $280. Fuck that!! That is way to much and it is only a 98. The part cost $109 and they are charging $78/hour labor for 2 hours bringing the grand total to $280.

Can i replace it myself? Or is there some trick or anything to try to get it to free up.

I dont see why you cant do it yourself. you know how it goes, the first time is a beyaccch but the next is a breeze....

 

try a flat head screw driver jk the dealer didnt get it going too?

 

did you try turning ur sterring wheel really hard left and right? cuz i know it gets stuck for safty purposes.. i dont know what else it could be.

yea if your wheel is turned all the way in one direction it might lock....you might just have to turn it back the other way to alleviate the pressure and hold it there while turning the key.

 

NOW MY WHEEL IS LOCKED, BUT I TRIED THAT

 

put e-brake on
turn steering wheel opposite way of lock
put key in ignition
turn and while pull key out slightly

try and move the steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn the key at the same time. Sometimes it gets stuck and only a certain combination of movements gets it going. That is my experience.
