idle engine problem

hi everyone, i'm in a major dilema, i just bought a 1999 3.0 CL from Florida. When I start it up, the idle goes up and down from 1100 rpm to 2100 rpm, but not in Reverse or Drive. When I go slow speeds, seems like the tranny is confused and it jolts back and then forward really quick, especially when coming to hard stops. The check engine light is on which i am taking to autozone to have tested to see what it is but i don't have a plate yet and i don't want to risk driving it, when i am accerlating, the tranny seems perfectly fine but when i am coming to a stop around 25mi/h and slower, thats when i have the problem. Sometimes at night when its a little cooler, it won't rev up and down, idle stays stable or it idles from 1100 rpm to 1500 rpm back n forth really quick, engine light is still on and the tranny doesn't jolt as much, i am so confused, i don't know if my tranny is faulty, i called acura and they said it could be the EGR valve, could this affect my tranny too, i have a 3 month warranty on the car but i have to wait for all this paperwork to go through, i'm just nervous, if anyone can help or have any thoughts, please post, thanks for reading!!!

P.S. o ya and it seem like when the air conditioner is on, it helps the idling problem a little bit???

the problem could be the idle air control valve (aic) the cost for the part alone was about $130.00 and with the labor about $110.00. not including the diagnostic charge about $70.00. so yeh, i've had that similar problem with the idle jumping and tranny shifting hard during breaking with my 99v6. my tranny was ok after the aic was replaced,. no problems after that. n e ways hopes this help.

Is this the same part that is a "recall" unless you have over 80,000 miles? I have 85,000 and it isn't covered (even though my check engine light never came on). Now I gotta pay for it even though I have the 100,000 mi warranty. Or so I'm told.

NO your thinkin of the egr valve.. the iac is attatched to the bottom of the throttle body.. just remove it clean out the screen and ports and reinstall it.. unless you want to just buy a new one..

Have your dealer change out your EGR valve NOW before you hit 80,000. I wish I did.

the egr exhaust gas recirculation valve is covered under an extended warranty.. till 80k miles. just take it to acura and tell them the check engine light came on and you took it to autozone and had them erase the code, and it was the egr code.. and you knew there was a recall so your gettin it done.. its usually bout 200$ to get done.. theres prolly nothin wrong with your egr but it cant hurt to get a free new one..

by the way the egr and iac are two different sensors.. and do totally different things.

If it's not the IAC then there is another type of idle control with a piece loose inside...i had the same problem with my 2.2 but i don't know if the 3.0 has the same thing

Why dont you check if you have a vacuum leak somewhere before you change anything.
