i think most people get excess carbon buildup... it is a flaw in the design of the car, i wish they would do a recall on it instead of only cover the 97's / up to 80k / 7 years or whatever bullshit they pulled

No. It is not located at the same place. It is located on the same body but different location. The IAC on the 2.2/2.3 is located behind the manifold. Its held in place by 2 10mm bolts. Once those are removed you should remove the coolant hoses connected to it. Should come out then. Use a throttle body cleaner spray to clean it out.
At first the car WILL act up. Once the valve and ECU readjust everything will be ok.
Do not ask me for pics. I do not have them.

I wouldnt replace the IAC and if you are planning on taking out the throttle body then yes you might need a new gasket. You can also do with the same one. They are durable enough to last a long time. Be careful removing it though. Dont break it if you are planning on reusing it.

the IAC valve wont do anything to that extent
