Either way, if i had a 2.3 manual i would convert to the h22 tranny. It meets my acceleration needs more than my barely used need for top speed. AcUrALiTy is happy with it, let him be happy. You have an H22 in your CL dont you? Not everyone can afford the swap, so a tranny mod to make the car a little faster hits the spot for some members.

Plus most the races I do ARE highway pulls. Its rare I don't go over atleast 100 during a race. Usually race is determined at about 120 or so.
I'm just curious...I've raced preludes that FOR SURE can go over 105 mph w/ only slight mods. You sure you don't have a lemon?

But here's my question rephrased:
Bone stock 2.2/2.3 CLs can go past 105...Some claim over 120...Some even say 140 **which I question, but thats another story**
Bone stock preludes can definitely go past 105...No question
So why the hell can't a 2.2/2.3 engine with a prelude tranny go past 105?

it does seem really weird but i can see why it would work that way. Not really sure if its worth the time to figure out/explain. It probly has something to do with the fact that when you are in 5th gear the mph/rpm ratio is a lot different then it is other gears. Going from 6500 to 7000 is probly a 15-20mph difference where in 1st you wont hit 40mph untill 5k. Hope that makes sense. Its a really tough one to understand unless you have driven a car with the same setup. My car falls out of vtec sometimes becaues of the h23 tranny. The gears are slightly longer and its not designed for a vtec engine. still works out fine for me though. Its only happened twice. Ask some of the doods on HT they might have a few answers for ya.

My CL with the stock f23 using a h22a4 5 speed tranny tops out at about 120 MPH becuase I start to redline. I know its because of the short h22 gears. I just wish the tranny was a 6 speed. I know the engine has more to give.

Something isn't right. I understand the close gear ratio thing...But even so, the prelude can still go past 105. As far as I can figure out...this tells me the f22 is complete shit and the h22 has that much more power that it makes up for the closer gear ratios and allows it to achieve a higher top speed. Am I right?
