I hope my tranny is ok.

I let my friend drive my car for a little, because he let me drive his a week ago. Anyways I never floor my car. He was doing 40mph and all the sudden he floored it to 7k rpm. How bad is this for the tranny? I'm trying to keep my tranny as good as possible. Does flooring it 1 time during the night have any affect on the tranny's life?

I wish I could floor it to 7k without worrying about the tranny

What else can I do to make it not as bad if I occasionaly floor it? (I got a tranny cooler)

If a tranny couldn't take a flooring once, I think you have more problems.

Well It's a rebuilt tranny, and it's not the 1st time its been floored...Probally 10 other times to the ground up to 90. But I usually never floor it always let it shift at 3.5k, is that even benificial? Or does it not even make a difference?

I have the opposite problem. I floor it without caring. I wish I could care more. But it's not like I neglect my car either. I never drive it hard without lettting it warm up. Why drive if you're not gonna have fun once in a while? When I had my del Slo, I drove it like I stole it every day, no joke. With that car all I had to worry about was the engine that I maintained meticulously. With this one I have to worry about the auto tranny. It won't hurt it to floor it once in a while. Just make sure you take care of it...maintanance wise.

why would it matter if it was night or day?

my tranny went bad from constant rev and abuse

once a twice is ok

but too much is bad

I don't think he had any intentions of emphasising that it was night time.

i wouldnt worry bout it. its ususally the 3.0's that have the slippage problem. only cause the clutch packs are bout the same size and diamater as the 2.x's. so more torque will obviously burn it out quicker. but as long as u arent flooring it every 5 min. dont sweat it.

See if you guys we're 19 years old, and you had to pay $1600 last time it was fuked up...I think you would care

I was just stating at night, cause thats when I usually drive.

But my main question is...

Does flooring take life off the tranny? If you just floor it 1 time and keep driving normal?

Why does flooring affect the tranny? Is there a proper way to floor it? I just want to take the best care of my tranny as possible, i checked the fluid and its still pink what else can i do.

sorry im just anal about this shit.

I don't think that has anything to do with a 97' 1st gen with a rebuilt tranny.

i beat the fuck out of my 97, no problems here...i had one time i was heading up to national trails raceway with some buddies, and my freind alex tried to pass me on the birm with his supra, i was in 5th doing 95mph and went to toss it into 4th to fuck with him, i missed and hit 2nd...let me tell you! there was fire and black carbon flying out of the tailpipe...the rev limiter was pinging so goddamn fast it sounded like an F1 car...i was atleast 14,000 rpm's, that was the worst, but everyday i race my cl on my original tranny and engine, for the past 60 thousand miles ive shifted at 7krpms nearly 50 times a day, my engine and tranny have 138,000 miles on them, and they still run as good if not better than the day i bought it, you need to blow out carbon deposits everyonce in a while...dont drive like a grandma, your cl can handle it...and dont criticize the way i drive, i dont care, and yes, i do know how to shift i dont miss gears like that all the time, i had just installed a short shifter and a new knob and i was not used to it...so anyways, i think you shouldnt worry, your tranny and engine will be fine...B

its not good for the tranny if u floor it while its in 2nd 3rd or 4th gear.. u confuse the tranny.. and make it shift backwards..

if you're gonna floor it.. might as well be at a dead stop.. so the tranny goes through 1,2,3,and 4 without having to back track...

just my

my 3.0 is slippin a little bit these days.. but i floor it once or twice a week.. and its still okay.. lol..
