i take the class the end of may. Then I'll probally get an R6. But i've been debating building a custom chopper, but i'll probally end up doing both.
Kul, what color is your car? We are real close to each other, i'm actually gonna be in yorba linda in like a hour

why again did you get a liter bike for your first one?
do you have any experience? have you taken the classes?
if you just bought it because you knew you were going to get tiered of the 600cc, then i have to say you made a really stupid/immature decision.

1stgen, i hear you, but I think it's a smarter decision then a 600CC. Atleast w/ a bigger bike you get things like bigger brakes and a little more weight. The problem w/ teh 600CC bikes it they are just stripped racers that want to keep the low weight, so the brakes aren't as good, etc.
But yes, I agree, dumb decision, I would of bought a mid 90's used bike and learned on that first. But people do have success going any way.

By all reasonable statistics you have made a VERY bad choice. Its ripe with the ignorance and stupidity that only someone with your age and lack of judgement could have. You tell people that you didn't wan't to get a 600 because you would get bored with it but you admit that you have NO perspective from which to judge when you admit no experience with street bikes. The same level of ignorance exists from the poster who says that 600's are stripped down and have bad brakes! What an idiot! I bet he didnt know that an R6 and a GSXR 1000 are less than 20 pounds apart and each have obscenely powerful braking components. You have no idea how fast a 600 supersport is and what it is capable of yet you expect to be able to make a good decision as to why the R1 was a better bike? You `probably' will survive your foolish decision. By probably I mean the odds are maybe 75%.....great odds when playing with your life! What I can almost guarantee is that you will crash and ruin a perfectly good sportbike that was too much for your inexperienced teen-aged-ass to handle with NO experience. Don't tell us that your `I'm better than that' `I can handle the power and be responsible' attitude makes you different than the thousands of other inexperienced riders who bought 100+ hp sportbikes (145 in the case of the r1) and aren't alive to tell you about your foolishness. I hope you enjoy paying the insurance because its because of people like YOU that insurance on sportbikes is so high. For your sake I hope you are just a troll. If not, I hope your family has good life insurance on your dumb ass.

pimpin, here is my 2cent. I understand about jumping strait to the 1000, and im NOT here to rag you. I had 3 bikes before I made the decision to get my GSXR1000. If I had to do it over again I would have gotten the 750. The power is unreal and very, very scary. I am not flaming you at all but as fellow rider please, please be very respectful of the power. 145hp and less than 400lbs you have a bullit setting between your legs. When you do ride please dont get into the peer pressure thing of "riding hard" or being a "hooligan". I just dont want to here about another bike accident, your best thing you could do is take a class involving these bikes or bikes in general. Ive seen 186 on speedo and its not something i recommed.
Just be safe and respectful thats all we ask

meta is EXACTLY correct. Owning a sportbike is something very serious. these are not little toys. the ase EXTREMEMLY DANGEROUS vehicles. one slip of the hand, and you are done. you can pray that there are no cars behind you to urn you over. over on the gixxer board, a few members were rear ended by a DUI. This is a dangerous sport, and with no sportbike experience, a 1000cc is more that you can handle. hell, you cant even ride a 600cc bike to its full potential. if you could, your name would be rossi, or duhamel, or mladin. and since its not, a 600cc bike could easily get away form you and kill you. one thing for sure is that you will wreck. guaranteed. im not trying to hate, im trying to save lives. ive read so many posts on tons of boards with this exact same topic, and the results are all the same. the lucky ones live to tell about it. i just dont want to see you get hurt or hurt anyone else. buy GEAR and WEAR IT. helmet, gloves, jacket, and pants. dont be cheap, cause these will all save your skin and life. wheelies are dangerous. had a guy form another club go down just last week, and he has been riding for 13 years. dont do stunts with that bike. please. sell it and get a 600, take the MSF course, then take the advanced rider course. you dont have to go 150mph to wreck, 20mph attempt at a wheelie can kill you. please ride safe

goodluck bro...
I have about 4 years of motocross experience under my belt and i still decided to start off on a ex250 (i have a cbr600 now). one bleep of the throttle through a blind turn and i can assure you you'll be on your ass experiencing a low side. You've already made the choice to start off on a liter bike so theres not much we can say. Besides tips on riding. And as for saying you'll out grow a 600?? Unless you're rossi or hayden i dont think you'll ever outgrow a 600.
wear your lid and buy leathers.

What most new riders do not know is that even the latest `little' 600's are producing more peak horsepower than full open class liter (1000cc) bikes did a little over 10 years ago. It was considered VERY foolish to start on a liter bike back then but its somehow `more' acceptable to start on a 600 with just as much horsepower now even though the human species has not evolved in 10 years to be a better rider with no experience. The ONLY saving grace the 600's have that makes it more forgiving is that the majority of the power is produced in the higher RPM range and not nearly as much torque overall as the liter bikes. The typical new rider will short shift every gear and will STILL think its fast as hell even though they are not even using half of the bikes HP capability. Hopefully their skills will develop before their false sense of ability will tell them its safe to really open it up where things can get REALLY scary in a hurry. To put it in perspective: A new 600 will do about 130 in the quarter mile. A new GSXR1000 will do 144 or so in the same distance. Is the 600 slow? No way. Will the 1000 spank you MUCH harder and faster when you are less than exact with the controls in even a mildly adverse situation (hell, even the perfect situation).......HELL YES. You cannot comprehend what these bikes can do to you. You lack the one thing that all of the maturity, common sense, and natural talent that your teenage brain thinks you already have cannot provide......its called experience and judgement.

Have you ever ridden before....dirt, or anything? I know guys that started on CBR 900's as their first streetbike, but they've been riding dirtbikes for years.
R1's are beasts, but at least they're small and controllable. Just gotta watch that twichy right hand
I find that 600's a more fun to ride. I like going trough the gears and having managible power. Especially for communting, I wouldn't need a 1000 or bigger. 600's now a days are faster than 750's from the days growing up. But an R1 is slightly overkill, but again, they're small and maneuverable. At least IMHO, more so than a GSXR or CBR. Just don't push the bike beyond your capabilities.

THE R1 is a sick bike, but not as a first sport bike. my friend has a gixxer1000 but that is his fourth bike. he dumped it twice already. my other friend just got a 750 last summer for his second bike and he said thats as big as he will go. i will stick with my f4. my friend neil just bought a 2003 R6, hot ass bike, he bought the black one with the flames, fast as hell. be very careful on the 1000, they are no joke.

can i buy your wrecked bike when you are done with it??? id like to have a spare stunter. seriously, what all these guys are saying is true. dirt and street are NOTHING alike. you dont deal with cars, trucks, and semis on a dirt road. i hope you have the sense to listen to the "experienced riders".

dont listen to vtwinfreak, hes in my crew. hes a dumb ass. stunting is dangerous. ask him how close he came to dying? and no street experience??? real bad idea. he thinks anyone who has less than a liter bike is a pussy, but hes just messin around. this kid could die, so lets give him some good advice.

All i can say is becareful as well. In the last week or two alone, there were two posts on a-cl.com of bike deaths. THATS ON A-CL.COM, A CAR BOARD! Its a dangerous "toy", and use your head. You dont have a cage and airbags around you like in cars, and usually, its the other person youv'e got to look out for. One of my bestfriends growing up lost his 17 year old brother at the time in a bike accident, right now he would prob be married with a family, but who knows.
