Hum comming from Timing Belt Area?

Just looking for a few thoughts and in sight about about this problem that has made itself apparent recently. I had my timing belt changed in december at the acura dealer, so i thought it would be done right. Ran great at first. Few months later I notice a hum comming from near the alternator, sounds like the alternator whine, but its not. I started poking around under the hood and found two rubber gromits that you can open on the timing belt cover. As I opened the front one up, the hum got much louder. Its obvious to me that I have pin pointed the source of the noise (sorta). Aside from the obvious take the CL back in and have it looked at since the work was done at Pohanka acura, Anyone have any ideas on what it might be? Any thoughts / suggestions are greatly appreciated.

was the water pump replaced also? if not, that could be your culprit. It's supposed to be replaced at the same time as the timing belt.

Yes, water pump could be going bad. I don't think it is a shroud because it would have done it when you first drove away.

Its not the water pump i had the same problem when i changed the timing belt on my 2.3

The timing belt was put on incorrectly after i took mine back several times they tried to tell me it is the new belt ant it will eventually stretch and become quieter, it never did.

Whomever did the work on your car did it incorrectly - the hum you hear is from an incorrecty installed belt which will eventually wear out prematurely.

I've got a dull sort of whine coming from the engine compartment (not like the high pitched brake squeel or anything) and I just had my timing belt/water pump done. It was done by a guy with 22 years of Acura/Honda experience so I'm hesitant to question his installation.

Any more details on that whining noise? My car actually happens to be in the shop with that same guy right now so when I go to pick it up I'll check out the noise.

mines in the shop as we speak dealing with this problem. It turned out to be something like a timing idle pulley or something like that, if anyone cares, i'll post the exact name tomorrow. if you got it done at acura its a 12 month warrenty, get it looked at. Service rep said i shouldn't have been driving it like that for the number of months i was.......oh well, they should have dont it right the first time.

just got off the phone with them. They replace the water pump and auto tensioner, service rep said it took care of 50% of the problem. Now want to charge me 180 bucks for parts only to change another tensioner (AC something maybe) i'm calling bullshit, and thinking one caused the other. i am pissed off. Any advice. Anyone know what tensioners are down there (service diagram)???????

there are two tensioners, timing belt (for the timing belt, duh.

and then there is the accesory belt tensionor, for the belt that is driven by the crank pully and drives the AC and alternator.

the only way the tho belts and tensioners are connected is through the crank pully.

all the iming belt pulleys and tensioners are hidden back behind the plastic covers (which are a bitch to get of btw, I have torn up hands to prove it), and then the other tensionsioner is just out in the engine bay. you can see it if you pop the hood and look down.

I don't know about $180 for parts, you wil probably find it for less elsewhere online or so.

just got off the phone with them, and my service rep cant remember what pulley it was, whether the accessory belt idler pulley tensioner, or if its the one behind the cover? how do you not know, my cars been with you for 6 days now. Still waiting on a call back. They replaced the water pump and an idler tensionerl. They said 50% of the sound is gone, and now another pully is going, i find that hard to believe, especially at the same time. i'll keep you posted.

I was looking at Mitchell, and it said something about the belt having a beveled edge. That edge should face outward. I will look again, but I get the feeling that the bevel keeps the belt from touching the TB cover.

they couldn't figure it out. so they replaced the alternator, idler pulley, and timing belt tensioner. After lots of miscommunication we settled on a deal. now i remember why i keep taking the car back to the acura dealer, they stand behind their work. (sorry if that sounds like a plug)

Sorry guys, Acura fixed this problem for me. They replace the water pump, timing belt tensioner, idler pulley and alternator.

My guess would be water pump, is it comming from your timing belt cover?
