How well does your handbrake work??

Hey, when i got my 3.0 cl about 4 weeks ago they said they did a few things to the car (the dealer) as prep to give to me. They said they "tuned" my handbrake. Meanwhile, it doesn't hold well. I drove in my friends a4 and i told him about it. we were going 40 on a deserted road at the time and he pulled his handbrake up (not too hard) just to see how long it took to slow down. His front tires just locked up it was so powerful!

1. How well does yours hold?

2. How many clicks does it take before it gets to a decent hold?

Your E-brake/handbrake locks up your rear tires! Doesn't have anything to do with the front ones. Mine works great, especially in the rain for 180's!

Mine takes about 3-4 clicks and it'll hold my car on a steep driveway. (even in nuetral)

Take it to the dealer and just tell them to tighten your e-brake cable.

Same here; about 3-4 clicks on a slight grade.

Check your rear pads/rotors.

Thanks, thats exactly what i was looking for. I can always rely on this place for good-fast information. The shop im interning at said it needed to be tightened a lot, becuase 11-16 clicks was way too many. just wanted to verify that that applys to this car!

I haven't looked at mine, but if it's anything like the one in my Subaru, it doesn't use the calipers. There's a small drum brake inside each of the rear rotors, and it's adjustable.

I can do ebrake turns quite easily in my '97, and it's never been adjusted.
