Easiest way is to disconnect the battery for a few minutes. Be sure you have radio code

Pull the 7.5 A radio back up fuse out from under the hood.

Much much easier than the aforementioned "easiest way".

What does resetting the ECU do? does it change anything except for resetting the radio?

the ecu has settings that come from the factory. if it sees anything past those, it shows the check engine light. sometimes mods that you do your car can be out of the "normal" realm of operation for the ECU. by disconnecting it, you wipe the slate clean and it goes back to the day1 settings.

when you run your car again, after resetting it, the idiot light turns off and stays off if the problem has been fixed. if there is something that is still wrong with the car (missing O2 sensor for exp) then the check light will come back on.

edit: im preety sure thats it, but if someone knows differently correct me.
