how to race an automatic
How would you race your 3.0 CL? Floor the gas from the very start, do that rolling neutral toss it into gear peel out strategy? What's the best way to launch?
Your going to F_ _ k up your trans if you pop it into gear from nuetral. Your best bet is just to step on the gas when it is in gear. The 3.0 has a quick take off so dont worry about the launch.
Well if you do a nuetral drop(shifter from nuetral) you will be picking pieces of your tranny up off the ground. Your best bet is to drop it in first, put left foot on brake and rev and hold between 2000-2500. When light turns green floor it and watch that redline.
When you shift to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th(I have a 2.3CL automatic) are you supposed to let go of the gas when you shift like in a manual trans, or do you get better peformance from keeping it floored and then just moving the shifter to 2nd, 3rd and 4th?

1) Put your Left foot on the brake and mash down HARD!
2) Use your Right foot to bring the rev's up to 1,800 rpms (try higher or lower depending on whether your bog down, chirp, or get get excessive wheelspin... chirping the tires is what you want to shoot for)
3) As you QUICKLY raise your left foot off the brake peddle mash the gas peddle to the floor.
Warning: Do not hold the gas and brake for more than a few seconds at a time. From what I hear this really heats up the torque converter and your transmission fluid.

so you can actually start gear 1, and mash the gas, then while still having your foot floored on the gas, you can push the shifter up to 2/3/4 ? Doesn't that hurt the car?

for starts keep your car intact and if you dont know how to race.. DONT!!!
but I say pin it off line.. peeling out dont do any good for time or quick starts.. its l;ows you down.... in once you reach about 4000rpm.. shift from d4 to d3 for more torque and power... once you reach your redline shift back into d4 and if needed repeat the shift.. yes it hurts yuor tranny but if you want to win.. you win at any cost!!

Generally I would say just hit that gas hard. On the 3.0 once that car hits like 4k RPM it's out. I have also had some fun shifting the car into 1st and then stepping on the gas hard. Once the car get's close to redline, shift into second, same with 3rd....
If your at the track, test it to see which one works better. I can't really tell you which is best.

Our cars have a fuel shutoff in case you redline too hard anyway so you wont screw it up. The best way to drag is to forget shifting manually but leave it in D3....it will shift at redline everytime...at least my car does....when its in D4, it shifts about 4oo rpm shy of redline.
