How long is gas good for

Sorry this is slightly off topic

My car has been sitting for over 4 months since my h22 blew up. It is about to be tuned again next week or the week after and I was wondering if the gas would be bad? Obviously boosting on bad gas is a bad idea. Should I insist the shop drain the gas and use some fresh 93? My concern about using octane booster is that I dont want it to be tuned at one octane level then use 93 thereafter.

Project update:
My block is due to arrive from ERL by Monday and should be in the car next week or the week after. Its being built with Superdeck I, Wiseco pistons, and Eagle rods. It will be about 2.3L with the larger pistons. Only getting it tuned to 10psi for now.

Quantities and qualities of gas degrade at different rates depending on fuel grade, average temperature, length of time, relative humidity and leaching of vaporous fuel loss. Smell it. If it smells like fuel, it is probably ok, but if it smells like wet burlap or varnish, get that shit out. You may want to drain it anyway to make sure the fuel system has no sediment in it. Fuel stabilizers are good for storing fuel for extended periods, but don't try to save it with octain boost or stabilizer if it is already degraded.

Hope this helps.

Fast, thorough answer. Thanks.

I didnt use stabilizer as I was only anticipating a 6 week turn around time. I guess the best bet is to drain the $35 worth of gas because it could be a lot more costly if its bad.

as long the car has been turned on and the gas has been circulated the gas should it be alright from my understanding. Has it not been turned on at all for 4 months?

Yeah, ide say drain it right before you get it back on the road.

i wouldnt say 4 months is a terribly long time for gas to be sitting there tho.

Cold is good. It is the warmer climates that gas will degrade in because the OCTANE vaporizes and fumes away.
