How hard is it to replace the cap and rotor?

I've got a 3.0 and I have a slight oil leak from my distibutor seal. I took it to my local mechanic and they want $220 to replace that. I thought I heard that it was easy to replace the cap and rotor (i prolly don't need to replace them but just remove them to access the gasket since that should have been done at my recent 120k service) so if anyone has a DIY (I searched on here already) that would be awesome.

It should be easy once you try it. Wish I had the car in front of me so I can take pics for you.

no is it maybe possible that I have a loose bolt or something and that's what causing the slight leak that I have? Should I retighen all the bolts before I go trying to replace the gasket? Is that a possibililty?

alright thanks guys, that's what it seems to be for all cars. I'll ask about it when I pick up my car (currently installing headers and fixing bad leak at the rear main seal)why they want so much if it's so easy. there's got to be something else to it they're an honest bunch of guys I've been going there for many years.

piece of cake...the trick is to use a REALLY short socket screw driver with a 8 mm socket to get the bottom screw out.

It's real easy, the cap and distributor are literally right in front of you, behind the intake

I don't have a timing light and don't want to buy one. Do you have to readjust the timing after replacing the cap and rotor in the 3.0? I think I read somewhere that the PCM takes care of it?

Mark the position of the distributor with a punch or scratch all before removing to replace the seal.
