How hard do you think it is

It kills me too. Trust me, my parents just dont want me having a car sitting around here for months while I try to part it out or repair it.

But if this is somethin I can do I will fix it and then sell it for more. If not autocross it... haha

I mean they aren't the only thing that need replacing, but if it isn't too difficult, it seems like the most mentioned cause for my issues.

can't hurt to try for $50 if they aren't crap quality..

What is wrong with the upper and lower control arms? Are just the ball joints shot?

wow, so the mechanic is a fucking idiot. he never specified exactly what was wrong. So i had the car towed to my house. I asked him what exactly needed to be replaced and he said he wasn't sure. And that the $1000 he said for parts was just a ball-park estimate.

So I bought a new car based on his decision and his telling me it wasn't worth it.

I mean don't get me wrong im really glad I got a newer car that I dont have to dick with and dont have to mod seeing as Im still sticking around acurazine. But goddamn it!

I think i'm going to replace the tie rods myself and see if that makes a difference. The control arms look fine... only thing wrong is the worn out polyurethane bushing on it.

The car no longer has plates so I have to do the work at my place if I do anything at all.

I'm just so pissed man, like I really would love to just keep it as a project car, but I have no way of knowing exactly what is wrong. My mom doesn't want to sell the car for anything other than parts because she doesnt want to worry about somebody getting hurt or something like that.

I wish I had a personal mechanic or something haha. I don't know what to do.

The mechanic also told me that, because of mass lemon laws, even if I sell a car "as is" if the repairs needed come to over $600 I can be sued or have to pay for the repairs and registration fees. It's ridiculous. MA regulations FTL.

Any suggestions?>

What about those dealer auctions? Make that baby run even for a little, make her shine, and let them bid on her. Once they buy her they can deal with her issues :p They only get to look at them from what i've read.

Have you jacked the car up on stands to see what suspension components have some play in them? If you unbolt ball joints they are easy to test. If you can easily move them around with your fingers, they are shot. Ball joints should be very hard to move with just your fingers, should be nice and tight. The bushings aren't really a huge deal until they are gone. And if they are poly bushings, they shouldn't really be worn out.

If you have access to a press, you can press the joints in and out. But all new upper arms and tie rod ends are so cheap for our cars that it's not worth the trouble unless you have the equipment. I think I paid like $60 for new upper control arms on ebay, and they are easy as hell to replace. Lowers would be a bit more of a pain in the ass though.
