Those things dont go together. If you're gonna go coilovers, good ones will cost u a lil bit of cash. If ur not trying to go too low, just get shocks and springs, like tokico blues and a eibach prokit.

yeah dude, honestly...I've been through tons of suspension setups in my day, and you really get what you pay for.

I'd cheap out on anything on my car EXCEPT for suspension. It's a component so vital to the overall safety/characteristics of the car. IMO, the cheapest 'decent' coilover setup you're going to get are ground controls (around 300 new) and maybe a set of tokiko illuminas or agx's. Ideally gc's should be mated with koni yellows though, but those are around 500, putting the setup at the same price point as unibody d2/ksport setups.

What's your budget? I honestly must suggest that you save up and get a good coilover setup like d2's or ksports. Anything short of ground controls is garbage...and you're going to end up ditching them, costing you more money in the long run.

seconded on the prokit idea

there's no real reason to need coilovers if you dont want to go really low

prokits might even last you a few months on stock shocks since they have really soft spring rates. Then again it's like an inch drop only, might hardly be noticable.

I've heard some people have decent results with the tien s-tec springs and tokico blues. not sure about it though

You CANNOT cheap out on suspension. FWIW, I'm looking at a GC setup - I have it priced at $322.05 plus shipping and install if I can't DIY. I'm probably going to go with KYB AGXs for struts for the adjustability, but they also offer Koni's (not sure if they're red or yellow, you'd have to call) for the same price. I want coils because I want the adjustibility to go between show mode and daily driver mode.

If you don't want to go the coilover route, I'd suggest an Eibach kit as suggested before.

on cheap coils, there aren't any worth mentioning. If I were you I'd buy tein basics, they're about $650.

That's cheap if u ask me

you contradicted yourself. slammage is suppose to be low and tucking tire lol.

i agree with flip. if you dont want to go too low then dont get coilovers.

if you wanna seriously slam your car i vote Skunk2's or Form and Function, or of course GC/Koni, which has the potential to absolutely slam your car.

Yes, there are a number of things detailed in the n00b guide, there is no comparison exactly like the one in 2nd gen in here cuz that is just comparing 2 tein products.

If you're looking to slightly lower but not slam, then get neuspeed coils or eibach prokit with some new shocks and call it a day. If you wanna lower and keep good ride get the tein basics.

id like to keep it around 500. i have a tax return on the way, but that isnt much, so i have a while to save. i was looking at kyb agx's, and im not completely sure. gc's sound nice, but im still kind of weary. like i said before, low, but not too low. i dont want to scrape on pot holes and shit, and i have a pretty steep driveway, so maybe a little over an inch.

The point of coils is that they can be adjusted to the height you want them. A eibach prokit drops 1.75 I believe which sounds like it might be right for you.

not to question your purchase or anything, but for 812 you could have had a set of ksports or almost a set of d2's

don't get me wrong, yellows are probably one of the best shocks you can get (had them on my 4th gen), but you coulda got a unibody setup for about the same price, with rebound adjustment/height adjustment

to thread poster: "gc's sound nice and all, but I'm a bit weary"
What is there to be weary about? They're the best coilover 'sleeves' you can buy for our cars, and in the end, give you ultimate flexibility on how high/low you want your car in a matter of 30 minutes and a few collar adjustments.

But it's up to you, if you just wanna go with springs and know you won't be indecisive on your drop down the road, then go with a moderate drop like prokits or the tien mild drop springs. IMO seems like you're really scared to drop with any substantial height, so that'd probably leave sportlines/neuspeed race's out of the question.

^^ not sure if you meant it that way, but the ground controls already come with springs on the sleeves. They're good springs as well. The only thing you'll need is to pair them with some shocks. I'd say at the least pair them with agx's, as tokico blues are OK, but I have seen stories where they blow prematurely under semi-stiff spring rates (they're not rebound adjustable)

^^ that's pretty damn cheap, new?

I know gc's retail for 300 new by themselves

agx's are usually around 2xx for a set, if you shop around

I've seen and rode in several cars w/GC's and tokico blues and they handled pretty damn well, and the ride was good depending on your level of slammage

yeah I've heard the ride with blues is pretty good

however, the issue with blues is it's a hit-or-miss for any drops larger than 2 inches (which in his case may be moot). I've heard of guys blowing out their blues in only months, while others have had them forever. Both with the same setups. I guess it may just be the luck of the draw.

Yeah i've heard of people blowing them before but i've seen some friends with SLAMMED tegs and 2g eclipses ride on them forever. I've got 2 sets, the set w/my GC's an the set w/just my sportlines and both of them are in pretty good shape. The ones with the sportlines i've been riding around on for over a year and put alot of miles on them.

Wow, never mind about the cheap GC packages I mentioned before. They advertised the price including your option of struts, now they specifically mentioned that the struts are purchased separately. I guess it was too good to be true, sorry for getting anyone's hopes up.

lol you're not gonna get anything 'quality' for dirt cheap, unless it's used

we already gave you the general pricing of gc's

now just search around and find the shocks that you want...expect to pay 2xx or more for the shocks

As flip said, the only way youre going to get a quality setup for cheap is if you happen upon someone selling used. It's still not going to be dirt cheap, but certainly cheaper than any vendor selling brand new parts. If you go this route, make sure you're not getting any busted shocks and be aware of how many miles are on the setup.

There are def a few setups in the BM that I saw, it would also help if you gave a price range. Dirt cheap doesn't help us help you, I can get you generic crappy $50 coils from ebay but u wouldn't wanna put them on your car, like I said dirt cheap is not a good determining factor

yeah Eibach and some tokicos or kybs are good.

Also your going to need to new polyurethane bushings from Energy. If not look into moving into a mechanic shop. You'll be there alot.

but judging from what he's saying, bushings is way down on his list. Matt, sportlines may be too low for him, he may want a prokit or maybe some tein h-techs
