Help with spark plug debate
Ok, I bought 6 Denso Iridium Spark Plugs (I think thats what they were, they were like $13 each) for my CL like 6 months ago. I never really had a problem with them. The local mechanic told me that was my problem when I had a cylinder 2 misfire like 2 months ago, and told me I should of never put those in my car.
I changed my buddys plugs (Mazda Mellinia) like 4 months ago to the Bosch Platinum 4's from some $2 cheap-o's. His car is now in the shop (same mechanic) and has a clogged vacume system and a clogged Intake Manifold. Keep in mind the reason I changed his plugs in the first place, was because he was having misfires and his stock plugs were black... it was just a quick fix to get it firing again. And get him to the dealer. Well he is saying that the aftermarket plugs caused his Shit to break.
As far as my car goes. I changed my plugs 6 months ago when I changed my wires, cap and rotor and battery. As some of you know my engine just died and is being swapped out as we speak with a used one.
Sorry for the long rambling post... I just dont think the plugs were the issue in either of these situations. Does any one have anything to add to either back me up or shut me up?

Nah it wasnt your pluggs...
But I also have a weird situation.
My friend had a a full blown Speaker system.. top-of-line stuff. Hes a pro installer, anyhow, I reccomended changing out coil, wires and pluggs during his last tune up. And everything was OEM, except I got him the Iridiums and his system doesnt hit as hard.
I did a test with OEM, Iridiums and regular plats.. and everytime I put the Iridiums in there.. his system doesnt hit as hard. It was a significant difference in sound quality. Can anyone explain this?

ummm.... I don't know anything about that. I have NGK Iridium IX's and my shit SLAMS
I doubt spark plugs would really make a difference, maybe something weird with power draw but i doubt it would affect his system so noticeably. Could it be soemthing with his coil or dist being hooked up weird?

If it were that.. then when I tested them with the Reg Plats and OEM, should all sound the same as with the Iridiums..
I have them myself and love em, oh well, it only means he cant use em.. then it wouldnt be worth the 3k system he throw in.

The mechanic in question offers fair prices and reputable service. I bough a fuel filter one day and had him change it out, and he only charged $10. He also cleaned out my intake manifold and EGR port for $80. Both great deals. So I dont know why he would make a diagnosis of crappy spark plugs as the root of these problems. Im not a fan of the Bosch plugs, but Im sure they make millions a year in spark plugs alone. I put the Platinum 4's in my GF Civic Si over a year ago and she hasn't had any problems. So yes it sounds like a cop out to me. But I will probably still refer people to them cuz they do offer fair prices. The Mazda dealer quoted my boy $890.00 to clean out the intake manifold and vacume sensor and replace the O2 sensor. And the mechanic he took it to only charged him $460.00
Oh Well... F*** him and his $2 plugs.

i swapped in some denso iridiums 3 months ago. so far no problems, i can't really tell the difference between them and $1 ones though. of course that could be cuz my car is mostly stock. new oxygen sensors made a huge difference though.
