Help! Lower ball joints.

I just went in to get a front end alignment and was told I needed lower ball joints. I have 68K on my 99 CL. Should my ball joints be bad already? This car has never been lowered or had the front end geometry changed in any way. I just replaced the original tires that had no signs of uneven ware. The guy said I had 1/4 inch play on the driver side lower ball joint. He said the passenger side was not as bad. How hard is it to replace these myself. They want $298 including $204 for labor. I just spent $400 on tires and don't want to trash them but I also don,t want to spend another $400 for this if I can do it myself.

I believe this may be a recall. Do you get a real loud humming sound coming from your front wheels?

I never got a hum...I got a bad squeek over bumps and metal grinding when coming to a stop.

Go to www.acura.com and check to see if your car is covered by the lower ball joint recall. Register on their "Owner Link" page.

No. All I have noticed was a slight pull to the right.

I registered but there is no recall. Anyone ever try to replace the balljoints themselves?

I started getting the same sqeaking sound up front. Is it the ball joint? i thought it might have been a worn out bushing.

I went to a Honda dealer this mourning and they said the balljoints where fine. In addition a four wheel alignment was $10 cheaper.
