help with 97 audio stuff

hey, i just searched for like an hour, and came up a little confused. First off, how do I know if my CL is a premium? my stereo doesn't say bose, so does that mean i'm a basic? also, if i'm a basic, do i even have an amp, or are the speakers hooked right up to the stock HU? if it is a premium, where is the amp in 97? thanks guys

i dont know if its differnt in the 97 but the 98's have the amp in the trunk on the left side and the speakers will have bose grilles on them and the HU sould say bose on it.

Good question I have a 97 also and there are no bose labels anywhere. you might check under the front seat for amp, but I dont think there was a premium in 1997. I would like to know also if anyone has answer.

If it doesn't say Bose, it's not Bose. What's so difficult?

no one ever asked "how do we tell if our sound system is bose" but thanks for the really helpful comment. still trying to figure this one out..... is it possible for there NOT to be an amp? and if there has to be one, its not behind the jack, so where might it be. thanks to everyone who's been helping

97 2.2's did not come with bose systems. 3.0's, however did. Is yours a 2.2 or 3.0? The only thing that made them premium was leather. All 97 3.0's came with a bose system, but you can change it and still keep the amp. The hu and speakers are only manufactured by bose. They're not elaborate dvc systems like in GM, Nissans, and newer Acuras. hope this clears it up alittle.

thank, that definitely clears a lot up. so since i have a 97 2.2 with leather, i guess it's a premium.... does this mean there is NO amp in the car, and the speakers are wired straight to the HU?

Regardless if it has bose or not you don't have to worry about it. It's just bose manufactured products not a true bose system.

they are worrying about it because when u get aftermarket speakers or headunits, u have to bypass the boss amp which i heard is a pain in the .
