Heat Shield Rattling

Somebody mentioned this before, but my heatshield's making this vibrating/rattling noise when i'm at about 1800-2000 rpms and it's REALLY annoying. I went to a muffler shop to see if they could fix it, and they didn't really do anything. They said that it's probably because of all the rain and snow that it's become rusted and loose...hence the vibrating/rattling noise. Does anybody know how much it would cost to replace the heat shield? Where can I go to get this done....I know that the dealer will rip me off for sure. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks...

Thanks for the reply VXCL,

So did you get the part from Acura? Or did you do it on your own? If you didn't get the clamp from Acura, where did you get it from and how did you do it? I don't wanna dish out a couple hundred just for the heat shield....lemme know if you got any tips...i wanna get this crap outta the way! Thanks!

just rip it off or buy a $2 metal adjustable clamp big enough to fit around ur cat and heat shield. then tighten it up. or if u want just go to any garage and tell them u want them to just throw a clamp on ur cat to keep ur heat shield from rattlin. should taske them bout 5 mins. should cost barely anything

Ya I posted a topic with the exact same problem...check out this post from some other member. I posted a couple of messages with a link to my original post.

Please let me know if this clamp fixes the problem...I REALLY can't stand it any longer.

I dented mine when I ran over a dead deer doing 75. (Midnight on the interstate, and the lights were not of much use) Outside of having to remove the pelt, Acura said that all was fine. At worst, they would pull it off, and leave it that way. If you want to go through the effort of covering it with a replacement metal....That is probably the safest. Otherwise, they said to just rip it off and forget about it...

Thanks for all the help...

i'm gonna go ahead and try the clamp idea. I'm still having a hard time visualizing clamping the heatshield and cat...but i guess i'll just go to a local garage and see if they know what i'm talkin about. VXCL....if you got any pics of the clamp setup, that would be AWESOME...but understandable if you dont....who takes pics of their cats anyways....but yeah...if you gots...please post...it would help a lot i'm sure. thanks...

VXCL...

You're not gonna believe this....but thanks for showing a pic! I was gonna do something completely dumb! When i was thinking adjustable clamp...i was thinking of some big clunky "C" clamp! I was gonna but a huge 5 inch C clamp on my cat!!! That's why I was having a hard time visualizing the setup....

But thanks...i'm gonna go do that right now...i'll tell you if it worked for me!

Damn...

I just put two of those metal clamps around the heat shield and cat, and it didn't do crap. It still makes that annoying vibrating noise....

How come you put a new heatshield on? Did you have the wierd vibration sound like us? If so, did a new shield fix the problem???
