It depends, do you still have the resonator in? I feel w/ the resonator out you'd still be pulling in some cool air from down below. but this is an issue most people don't realize. They simply just throw on a filter and think they are gonna get better performance, but what they are doing is just sucking in hot air from the motor and losing performance. What you can do is make a plate to block the air from the engine and to focus it on the air comming up from where the resonator was.
like Hobo said : You'll loose some power (AEM make @ best 5 hp @ PEEK). There is a clue : COLD air intake. So the benefit of having a CAI is to take cold air from the front. The stock will be better in very hot summer than a Short ram intake.
Don't bother to remove it.

i read a thread in the dsm.org site like a year ago and a guy hooked up some shit to his mas airflow sensor that told him what the air temp is. well he put a thermometer out side the car and the one from the mas airflow sensor and there was only a 10 degree difference. he then drove the car with the thermometer hooked under the hood and by the time he hit 5 mph it was exactly the same as the outside temp. so what im saying is theres a minimal loss at start up that instantly changes when u start moving.
