Headlight Housing Question...
Headlight Housing Question...
Hey wassup..
my ? is: You know the metal piece that covers the headlight in the housing area, is it possible to take off that piece so that the light output is a little brighter?? i looked in the housing and there was a screw in it, so i thought maybe i'll try to take that out.. i looked in a BMW housing and saw that there was no metal piece..so maybe it'll work for our car.. thanx for the help..

Yes you can take it out but most people will paint it with flat black high temp paint. I did this. Looks real nice. You have to take your bumper off to get to the lights. Do a search, LOADS of info on this has been posted.
Don't do it. If you had a plain bulb in there, it would make some nasty hot spots in the center of your beam. But, 9006 bulbs (our low beam) tips are coated anyway for the same purpose. The best option of to modify a 9005 bulb to fit, as it's tip isn't coated and it's 10W more power. The lil piece that covers the bulb should STAY. It acts like a mini reflector and smooths out the beam. Really, memoving the piece would hurt the beam by focusing more light into the hot spots instead of all across the beam. 97CL22, I sure hope you didn't paint the inside of the peice. Painting the outside would be for looks. Doing that 9005 conversion would give you 70% more light output.
