Headlight Conversion

Anyone know if there is a headlight coversion to HID avaliable for our bod style? I don't want to replace the bulbs again, I want it to look better.

Are you talking about the whole housing or just the HID lights? If you want to housing, I don't think there is one that will fit.

If you are talking about installing H.I.D lights, there are kits available online or probably in some stores. They are D.I.Y. kits, you just need to install the ballasts somewhere and then plug the lights in. I heard that it isn't all that hard...but I have yet to do it myself.

I think PIAA makes a kit. It uses your existing headlight housing, just installs HID in there. Check out this website... this guy actually did this a while ago. I'm not sure how much the kit costs. When it first came out it used to be around $1,000, but I think it's down to $400-$500.....

Yeah there are a whole lot of conversions. Go with something that is not that cheap...if you want HID look but not the price, try checking out the CATZ conversion kit. It isn't a true HID kit but it comes really close...actually close enough so that you cannot tell the diff.

JHowell, the toughest part about an HID conversion is making sure that the bulb is properly shielded to prevent road glare.try this place as they sell complete kits WWW.XENONSHOP.COM .This outfit is in Canada but they will ship anywhere.I bought my HID from a place in Lodi New Jersey but had to make the shields myself. If you are reasonably skilled with tools you can buy just the parts and figure a good installation on your own,if you are not skilled with tools go for the plug and play from the outfit in Canada.Jens

Thx Jens. I was the one actually talking to you about this at the CL meet. Wish there were more 1st gens there but maybe the next meet they will come out of the woodwork. By the way, your Miata is so insane, I would love to see you run that!

JHowell thanks once I get a new flywheel and clutch and address the issue I have with some high rpm pinging I will probably give the car a workout at Englishtown on a Wednesday nite run and tune.I forget the name of the place where I bought my xenon gear but to convert your car is pretty straightforward let me know if you need some help.Jens

I have the actual Mercedes HID's custom fitted on my 3.0. The housing around the bulb just has to be shaved a little to lock in or you can silicone it in the socket. If anyone wants them I have them for $400.00 a pair. Any place else charges $1200.00 if they can even get them.

Has anyone here had experience with installation of a stock Philips HID or other kit? Do modifications always have to be made for the sheild? I am concerned about the glare issue. Anyone have any real world experience?

thanks.

Im pretty sure the Philips kits are beam pattern correct for the 9006 socket we have so there should not be a glare issue.
