head unit install
Mods, can you please leave this in first gen section, since the a/v section doesn't get many replies and looks.
I have a '99 3.0 with the stock Bose system. I just purchased an Alpine head unit and will be installing soon. I noticed that the Bose head unit is slightly larger. Is there a dash kit that is specifically made for our car or do I need to custom make something to get the new Alpine to fit. Help!!!

blah blah blah
its not really larger, just looks that way. You don't really need a dash kit (94-97 accord). after you remove the stock unit, u could unbolt the stock lower pocket and put it onto the new one, and just make some brakets to make it fit back in. No that hard.

It's defintely larger. I put the Alpine faceplate in front of the bose head unit and the bose head unit was about 1/4" larger all the way around.

Alpine does make cd players that play mp3 and cd-r. Most of the new models do. The CDA-9807 I believe is the lowest model in their line that plays both mp3 and cd-r.
Check it out. Another question. Might be a stupid one but, that red led light that flashes on the bose system, that's not directly connected to our factory alarm is it?

btw, ebednarz, are you using the stock speakers? if yes, can you tell us how it sounds w/ your alpine?

That's what I thought with the light, just used as a theft detterent I guess.
No, I'm not using my stock speakers. I am in the process of doing an entire sytem install right now. Putting in CDT Audio 6.5" components for the front. Had a pair of Polk MM series 4x6 plates laying around, that I'll be custom fitting into the rears, to use as rear fills. Using my current subs. And of course putting in the Alpine. I'm gonna take plenty of pics of the entire install process, this way I can help others out when needed.
The CDA 9813 is a nice face. I'm only putting in the 9805, because all I wanted was the most basic model with a cd player, radio, some pre-outs and I'm good, you know?
Let me know when you get the alpine how it looks and sounds in your car.
