hawaii recon laws
Anyone in hawaii got recon for their cl?? What spring/shock setup are you running and how severe is the drop.....just got my safety taken away and need to go get stupid recon

recon, short for reconstruction permit, its like a second safety check for us in hawaii, only state with it! that sucks!, if you dont have a recon sticker the cops can ticket you for no recon and if they do that 3 time they have the potential of impounding your car, hey baka-t i know eric (insyone) has recon, he'll answer all your ?'s,
so back to subject, its kinda like a safety check station, when you go in there you have to have affadavits for almost all your parts (exhaust,rims, etc.) or you wont even pass, for suspension you need alignment papers showing that your camber is correct (and your car cant be tucking fender), rear spoiler has to only be under 4 inches high, unless is factory (like the trd celica kit), your intake has to be bolted down, headlight and tailight conversions dont pass, any blue lighting (even H.I.D.'s) dont pass, clear corners as well, but a lot of ppl take the risk of not having recon, like me, i plan on getting it when i have bags and rims, so i can roll in there stock height and get recon just for the rims hehe...
anywho, recon is stupid, its just another reason for the state to make money off of us, because they are making a lot!

you can think of "recon" as a hardcore saftey check.
concerning your situation, depending if you have coilovers or springs, you will have to convert everything back to OEM spec. just make sure the center of the headlight is 22 inches off the ground, and the bottom of your license plate is 12 inches off the ground.
before you get a recon inspection, be sure to:
1) convert modifications back to OEM
2) get an affidavit from the shop where you had purchased the springs/coilovers.
3) make sure you get your wheels aligned. theyll give you a paper with the specs of your cars alignment, that they have corrected. bring that paper with you.
side notes:
1) remember, when going for recon, it is a thorough inspection. they will inspect your whole car, not just (say for instance) your springs/coilovers.
2) if you have clear corners/turn signals on your front bumper, you should put back the amber turn signals.
3) make sure you have a current saftey check stickers.
4) if you have illegal tint (below 35%), forget about recon, because they will instantly reject you for illegal tint.

Well im getting my tint stripped...i have springs..no camber kit how big are they on camber??? gonna put my amber lights on..i did some measuring my head lights are 22"s to the center but my plate is lower then 12" no other mods except drop...didnt buy the springs from here is a affidavit needed thanks for the help..i got the old school light speeds

Make sure your alignment papers are current within 30 days of getting your recon. If you try to get recon after the 30 day alignment is expired, you'll have to pay for alignment again. I have some friends that can help you out with this

reguarding camber: the shop that does your alignment will tell you if you need a camber kit.

The only reason i have to go through this is some one called the city (safety check department)? and gave them the # off of my safety sticker...stating that my car was illegal..drop, tint.. whats weird is a few days ago my car was egged..i think maybe the same people that egged my car called in my safety check so as of now the service station is revoking it untill i get my recon and remove my tint.

i remember read that recon originally started when there were alot of car thefts and it was to make you sure paid for your parts but the during the mini truck scene alot fo truckers got recon ticket and then evolved to safty concerns and what not. i dont got recon but got off with warning for it a few times just be really nice when you get pulled over.

omg i feel sorrie for you islanders! can't really do shit no more, i'd move back to the states if i were u guys. and i thought kali got sum bullshit regulations but HID's, conversions, wings, fykin springs! RIDICULOUS...

hey baka-t you dont have a white CL slammed with C5's and n1 exhaust and clears do you? cuz i was riding next to one in hawaii kai the other night
oh and btw, while we're on the subject of recon, i just got a recon ticket at a car cruise last night! fuckin cops blocked off both exits and started checking ppls cars one by one and no one could leave, had about 35 cars, after that they opened one exit and everyone just dug out, sucks ass! thats 50$ down the drain

Nope seen that guy around tho i have a black 97 3.0 slammed with tint and clears had axis sevens gunmetal but sold (rubbin too much) rollin the stocks now!

BTW, I got my recon before my headers and icebox, so I gotta go and update it otherwise it wont pass my next safety inspection. you are supposed to carry around the list of mods, and if you get pulled over and you got other things that are not on the list, you could get a ticket and even worse, your recon revoked.
Also, I live in Hawaii Kai too

Daymn yah hopefully i can get out for the next cruise..gotta get my dvd n my screen all hooked up by then...to Insyone did they check if your suspension moved 2"? cuz i think the front is pretty much bottomed out..if they did looks like imma have to go buy some teins or get some spring spacers.. crap car is sittin for now
