Having serious issues with the ball joints...help!

Hey guys. I am in the middle of taking the transmission out to change my clutch and I got stuck. I don't know what the problem is, but my lower ball joint will not seperate from the lower control arm. We have tried just about everythign we can think of to get them undone, I rented the seperator from autozone and it didn't seem to help. It jsut seems like they are so rusted together that they are fused together. How expensive are ball joints for our car? because I'm real close to just hacking away at them and buying new ones lol. any advice would be great!

You can get a set of adjustable camber ingalls ball joints for about $100 on ebay, that's what i'd do since you plan to lower anyway

ehh, so far its been a pain lol, taking the tranny physically out of the car took forever, i might take some pics of some things that we did to make it easier, it really isn't that hard, we just hit a couple problems here and there, but its definitely do-able, just make sure you have some form of an impact wrench or gun because some of the bolts are real tough to get out

You only need to be 19 up there, but it's expensive, and it's a giant tourist trap. Had a blast though, tried to get silverCL to come out and meet us, but he's :ghey:

oh and as for teh balls joints, they're gay...i remember when i didn mine and the socket fuckin seized onto it and didn't want to home off no matter what...

so of course i take my sledge hammer (portuguese style, that's right) and smash the fuck out of it but no, it didn't come off, instead it came flying at my ankle like a bat out of hell...

lets just say that i was down for the count and then some..but of course my buddies loved it..

..anyways, the moral of this is that balljoint + seized socket + sledge hammer =

Yeah those lower ball joints are a bitch. I had to pund them out with a 10lb hammer. After so many hits they came out but after so many hits the threaded stud bent on me. I bought 2 new joints at autozone. $20 a piece.

well you need to support the lower control arm in such a way that it doesnt move. If it stays on the rubber or leave it disconnected then the hits will be absorved by the rubber or the motion your are making. A sledge hammer does the job.
Btw. Those brakes were def worth it.
