Has the V1 radar thing failed any of you?

does it detect pretty much every cop within 3/4 mile or so?

I'm thinking of getting one cuz I've been using one that is 6 years old and doesn't pick up jack...

Also, the v1 detects 360 degrees correct?

 

It has never failed me. BUT, my roommate has one too, he has had 3 tickets since getting the V1. TWO of them he didnt even have the damn thing plugged in, Third he was doing well over 90, and cop crossed over the hill and did instant on radar. He ended up getting a ticket for 82 in a 65

I have had the V1 give me warning upto 3 miles in advance in pancake flat nebraska.

 

does those radar really works??....i thought it just detects radar, by the time u detected u r alredy caught..thats wat i thought...im thinkin of gettin one too but does it really save u from a ticket????

 

this is tru for most detectors, but not v1. Most people on this board swear by it.

 

Dude, V1 is amazing. I've been saved by many MANY Instant-on KA hits and several Laser too.

 

instant-ons can fuck you no matter how good your detector is. Some will pick them up but if the cop is paying attention he can get ya.

 

I got nailed once, but it wasn't the V1's fault, it was because I was being sloppy... Far left lane on an empty five lane highway... very early morning, got hit with laser going over a hill.

That was a couple years ago... I've learned that if I speed, and actually use the passing lane for passing, then go back, I haven't gotten shit. And as far as instant on goes, there is always someone faster than you... stay a few hundred feet behind and let him get tagged with the instant on. When you detect it, just back off the gas and let the cop pass you and go after him.

THe V1's just a tool. Combined with some common sense it'll serve you well.

 

well said exxxciteCL. i've had mine for half a year, and no tickets yet. i've noticed however that many times, cops dont even have their radar on, so you still need to be careful. you just have to be careful when speeding on the highway for example when going over a hill for example.

 

I love my V1.. It works great for my long trips to LA. No tickets yet!!

 

I'm with jamolie and exxxciteCL. Be careful when you're speeding. The cops are hiding everywhere I live w/ instant on radar. A detector might not help you if you're all alone flying over a big hill, but it might pick them up aiming it at some other poor sap who's up ahead of you. Mine has save my ass quite a few times.

You guys do realize they cannot legally write you a ticket with ONLY the instant on radar? If you get hit with it, slow the fuck down RIGHT THEN. They have to flip the unit all the way on then to confirm. If they hit you going 75, then confirm at 55 - you'll prob be ok.

Laser is very different, and you are fucked any way you put it unless they tag someone around you first - good reason to always use a guinea pig.

According to my cop buddies, if they are going the same direction as you, they just visually check their speedos and if you are going more than 10 over the limit when they even it up, they'll pull you over. Going the other direction, they'll whip around IF they see you noticably zooming or passing other cars rapidly. Most of these guys work over toward the ghetto, so most of the time it turns into other stuff besides speeding. It's just the first thing that catches their eye about you. Same with not using blinkers, funky lights, etc.

 

Had mine for four years. Works like a dream. They hold their value too (see Ebay).


The only way I've been burned was when a cop came up from behind me without his radar on (unmarked car too).

He let me go, but I learned a lesson. Cant depend 100% on the V1, but can't imagine anything else.
