Has anyone converted to 9003 bulbs?

Seems easy enough, high/low in the same chamber, frees up the hibeam chamber for an h3 "fog" looking light ... 2 harnesses for $11 at autozone...

?

9003 and H4 - Dual filament for high beam and low beam
lumens: low 910 +/- 10%; high 1500 +/- 10%
watts: low 55-80; high 60-100
life: low 150-800; high 75-150

9006 and 9006LL - single filament for Low beam applications
1000 +/- 15%
55
1000 or 1500 (LL)

9005 and 9005LL - single filament for high beam applications
1700 +/- 15%
65
320 or 700 (LL)

oh shit, 9006 are 1000 lumens, I'd be downgrading a little

#1 you're going to fry your headlight socket runnning 100 watts to a 55/65 watt socket
#2 you can't run bi-headlight bulbs by making a "harness"
#3 that picture is an led i believe.

^agreed to all numbers above, and i'm pretty sure that is the led mod with an led bulb just stuck in there, not producing a whole lot of light
There would be no possible whay that i could see still having high and lo beams on the same bulb without changing the housing at all. You would need some kind of motor to change the angle of the whole housing like i've seen in the sti's or other ways like maybe changing the angle of the bulb or something, i'm sure there is some.

You're pretty much on point, but it is technically possible because many of the Civics are setup with a single dual-filament bulb in the headlight housing. But you'd definitely be sacrificing light output - I've driven a Civic at night without HIDs and it pretty much sucks. In order to accomplish it, you'd need to change how the headlights are wired. Specifically, you'd need to make the highbeam switch trigger the second filament rather than the other set of bulbs. Then you'd have to wire the existing high beams with a second switch to trigger them. Oh, and by the way, 9005 bulbs are super bright and are dangerous to drive on even during the day.

It's a lot more trouble than it's worth for the look. Not to mention you'd be sacrificing safety for looks, which is always dumb.

^but wouldn't the whole point in highbeams be that they would have a higher "cutoff" line? so that you can illuminate things that you would have to blind normal drivers to see...

he should just get HID's for the low beams cuz they will produce more light than the dual filament bulb and with the stock cutoff line they shouldn't glare or blind anyone a lot. The whole idea of wanting low and highbeams that are strickly defined by the amount of light output doesn't really make sense to me. As the high output at a stock cutoff line won't blind anyone like crazy. But at a higher cutoff line the bulb running at one filament will not produce enough light output for normal night driving IMO. It sounds like if i tried to drive my car at night using my DRL's which would be a horrible idea

Yes, you're absolutely right, even with the second filament engaged you wouldn't be able to see as far ahead. The Civic housings are designed for it (even if they don't do a great job), ours simply aren't.

I'll be doing a DRL mod this spring - not the same look the OP is looking for but it will cool nevertheless.

If it were me, I keep my highs and lows and install some leds like mentioned above. Low wattage, no new harnesses, just wire them in to the parking lights and forget about it. or you could use halogen foglight bulbs. I just wouldnt go hacking up your harness, risking fire and other problems. seems too complicated, for no gain.
