Had CL for a few months, first post

hey I've been lurking for a bit now so I figured i'd register. i got a '97 3.0 basically cuz all my friends drive riced-out civics/tegs and i wanted something better So i put CAI on and it sounds pretty nice. anyway i wanna race a couple friends (from a standing start), one with a 99 GSR and one with a 93 civic with a 99 GSR motor. I know i got 'em in HP and kill them in TQ, but im banking on losing since they both have a large weight advantage(im prolly not gonna take the subs out since they're only 50lbs total) and 5spd (assuming they can drive it). Either way i know im not gonna get spanked....j/w what kinda chance i have, who would get the early lead (me i assume) and if they can catch up, etc etc.

Also, what kind of improvements does just a CAI give?

Thanks, ive learned quite a bit in 2 days

CAI = 5-7 hp average, I think. Maybe a little more...that was the first thing I did when I got my car, I couldn't feel any difference. Sounded a lot better though...

sorry can't help you on the racing topic, I know nothing about civics.

you've got the same car as me!! (well mines black..i donno about yours...)

anyway, ive owned mine for a while....you should do fine...just put it in D3 and leave it there....powerbreak up to about 2rpms and your good to go! im sure you'll probably have them by atleast 1/2 a car length unless the guys are ungodly and skilled at drivin a 5 speed...

BTW: welcome and check out my WWW below to see my picts of by 97 3.0....

feel free to PM me if u got any questions about the race or your new car!!

hey whats up man! That civic is gonna spank you, but you have a chance against the gsr. I think as long as he doesn't get you by more than a car or two in 1st gear, you should beat him. Cause there is no way he will pull on you after 40 mph. (Also are they stock?)

You will probably beat the civic if you race from like a 50-60 mph roll, and you will kill the gsr. On the freeway they both don't stand a chance. (well maybe that civic does if it has mods) Good luck, let us know what happens.

im pretty sure both of them have the basic i/h/e, other than that nothing special (no chips, no NOS). i know the civic has about 1000lbs on me but ive heard the kid's a pretty crappy driver lol. Oh i how does powerbraking help improve launch? i have some guesses, just not sure.

btw, mine's red

If they both have e/i/h, then your going to lose to both of them for sure if they can drive. You might beat them, but only if they have a bad launch or miss a gear. You still might have a chance on the freeway, but gsr's are pretty quick.

Power braking just keeps your rpm's a little higher, so you'll jump off the line better. Oh and I'd just leave the bitch in drive, none of that d2/d3 shifting bullshit, it doesn't help!

your 3.0 should be running about 15.7-15.8,
bolt on gsr's are right around low to mid 15's if driven good.

so basically your toast untill about 90-95mph, and then you should start gaining. Tell them you want to race till 130 and you'll better your odds

well i've seen quite a few people on here with 3.0's run high 15's stock or with only intake, so it's possible. Either way, your odds aren't good against the modded gsr's.

by the way, just curious, what was your 1/8th mile time when you ran that?

well first off, reaction time doesn't affect your E/T.

Next, what were the conditions like? THat is the most important thing. I've ran everything from 16.4's to 15.5's all w/ the same setup. There is ALOT that can effect the time

Just count and see how short a period of time these actually are between each other. Keeping it in D3 doesn't matter till you hit 100.

Acura3.0CL was probably using 93, right ghander? haha

Seriously...50 pounds is weight. I'm not sure how much it'll help, but remove the subs and spare before you race. And don't fill your tank up all the way. None of this'll probably help drastically, but maybe it will.

blo2ck has a point. Tell them that they are bitches unless they race you to 130 or 140. Or maybe a 2 mile race...yeah, there you go.

ok i raced the gsr and lost by a few car lengths. we went twice and the first time he beat me off the line, 2nd time i beat him off the line. i found out he only has intake, no exhaust or headers.

but then i beat a 95 v6 Max by a bus length or 2.

the gsr driver said his car is governed at 120 or something...is my car governed at all?

also that civic doesnt have his necessary ecu or harness yet, so he has no vtec lol, i guess that gives me a lil better chance against him.
