H22a install help
H22a install help
first of all this is no joke
i'm sick of getting beat by neon's and other shit cars
i have 5000 and i want to drop in a built h22a into my cl
i want a spoon ecu and jdm tranny with street clutch and flywheel
i also want a new turbo running 10-15 psi of boost
i'm looking to run 12's
WHERE can i get this done?
i can't find any place that is willing to do the swap and build the engine with my specs. one guy said he wanted 10000 and i told him to F off.
am i crazy or is 5000 about right?
how much is my 2.2 engine worth, the shop can have it for trade and that should reduce the cost
i am now in VA and can only give up my car for about 14 days then it has to be completed
you guys have any suggestions?

Do the H22 swap with LSD and get forged internals, balanced and blued. Forget the Spoon, leave that for F&F 2. Get a big shot. You'll be within your price range and around your ET range.
Do a lot of research before you delve into a project like this. PM fode. I think dcsquirm is also doing a swap. Good luck and don't forget that even though the H22 bolts right in, there are always unexpected complications which result in more money. And you might get a short warranty, but don't expect much along those lines. You could blow the motor on your first run and be fucked. That's the way it goes.
Sorry but theres no way you can have a built and bossted h22 installed for 5k. Another thing is the spoon ecu is only made for obd1 cars so since your car is ob2 your going to run into some problems. Skunk 2 does sell a kit to convert an obd2 car to obd1 but in runs around $300+.
If you lived in Miami I would tell you to go to my friends shop and he'll do your swap for $500-$600.
Take your time buying everything and you can find some really good deals. Thats basically what I'm doing and after 6 months of buying parts and piecing togther an h22a4 I should be done later this month if no more unexpected delays happen. Good luck

i'm suprised i haven't been messaged yet.. heh.. heres some input tho.. you can use a spoon ecu on a 96 or lower engine.. and its easy to convert your car to obdI.... the reprogram might cost you a few hundred.. if that.. h22a's cost around 2400 depending on the day.. install.. figure a 1000 for a good shop to do it... turbo.. good luck.. a turbo kit for an h22a will run around 3k.. your better off spraying the engine with a 75 or a 100 shot until you have money to upgrade stuff.. and if you want to boost it safely, get ready to spend some money on internals.. my engines worth about 10k.. with no forced induction.. thats just the motor. i just bought a new turbo for it to.. top secret stuff getting revealed here.. t04b.. its fairly large.. should do some damage.. but after dropping 10k into a motor.. you can safely run 15-30lbs of boost.. and a shot.. then you have to worry about traction.. so you need to upgrade your axles to race axles.. and get some real tires... and you also need to upgrade your fuel system.. very seriously.. if you want to run that much boost.. after that you need stuff to monitor it with.. so figure 1000 bucks in monitor devices (gauges, afc's, or a DFI).. then you need some dyno time so it runs right... thats around 250 bucks an hour.. ... then mebbe, if everything lasts that long.. you'll have a rocket for a car.. if you need a shop.. come up to jersey, i'll hook you up
fode: Somehow I don't think he realized what would be involved. What was the name of that shop in Freehold again? I'm off 33 prolly 10-15 minutes from there and definitely want to check it out.
Blackout: Just spray your stock motor to hell before it dies and then you'll be forced to do the swap. Get a NX setup so you can retain it and jet it up for a built H22. You can't shoot all the time, so your drivetrain won't be as stressed as it would be driving around at 20 lbs. of boost all over the place. For $5k you can achieve what you want. Turbo you're talking over $10k for a properly tuned setup that's "reliable".

Maybe you should consider a custom fabricated supercharger installation. There are reputable shops out there that could do the the entire job for about 5k. This would include the blower (Vortech, Borg/Warner, etc.) custom brackets and ducting, and dyno tuning using a programable ECU like the new Greddy unit. You would also need headers and a free-flow exhaust system. The custom blower should produce about 220+ horsepower from your F22a. Also, the f22a is well suited to a blower setup with its relatively low compression ratio.

Our CL 5 spd. trans. won't handle 220 H.P. ? That's not very encouraging.......
also, the 2.2 is an f22b1.... sorry about that. :P
Nope its not bullshit the CL auto tranny cannot take much extra hp at all. I just don't rag on my car and only spray once in awhile. After a year with the zex kit its still pretty much ok but I keep a close eye on it just in case. If I had a manual tranny or you do then it would be ok as long as you have a good clutch. The manual tranny can take more abuse without a doubt.

Thanks guys for all the info.
more Q's
1. If I keep this engine and spray a 75 shot, get header/exhaust, new msd ignition and plugs and wires, will I be in the lower 14's?
If not, i'm not keeping this engine.
2. A friend on mine told me to buy the h22a4 from a 97+prelude because it is the easiest to swap out. True?
3. I was thinking of buying the engine, tranny and ecu from ebay, put it on an engine stand and start to build it when I get more cash. I really want a turbo, but you guys said I need about 10k for it and then it still might not work. This really sucks. The only reason I have 5000 is because I was saving for an S2000, but I still can't afford to get one.
4. Should I just keep saving money for the S2000 and put my head between my legs when I get beat by neon's? or what?
remember this car is my daily driver and it has to be reliable

. The best and only I've gotten since I've only been to the track once is a 14.8. I might be able to do a little better since I wasn't able to get traction with my 17's and kumho tires. If I had a better tire/rim setup it would be a little better but not much more. So basically there is no way you would be able to run low 14's with the mods you listed above. H22a4 is the way I decide to go as well. I got my '99 h22a4 simply because it is obd2 like our CL's and would only simply wiring a bit. As far as bolt into the engine bay all h22 would be the same.
thanks that answers my question about et's
$0.00 more is going into this engine
i still don't know what to do
i have 90000 and i need to replace the timing belt, don't want to pay for it though if i am changing the engine, how much longer will it last? the car is running like shit
I forgot to ask, will i be in the low 14's with a h22 swap with tranny and ecu and street clutch and flywheel as the only mods?
of course i have to take out my heavy audio system and the 250lbs of dynamat

am I going to be emissions legal after a swap and turbo setup?>
anyone have a clue?
has anyone actually done the swap?
a lot of people say they are working on it, but i want to see pics
do i need to buy a new starter, alternator, all the other shit too???

I doubt you can pass emission on a turbo setup. Any JDM engine won't pass emission so I dount a turbo one will. You should move to Florida were there are no emission inspections.
If you buy a complete swap then you don't have to buy anything else.
I am working on mine
If you want to see pics check out the link on my sig.

Well f0de I guess I don't know shit about emissions since they aren't any in FL.
Basically if you got the cash you can do whatever you want, I take it. Like last night when I saw a brand new JDM civic type r at the races. The guy that owns it went to Japan bought it new from a Honda dealership for $22,000. Then spent another $10,000 to get it here, register it and get it through customs. Personally I would of just bought an s2k but it sure is a one of a kind here, especially since he was driving on the right side of the car (I imagine f0de must be used to this).
