Grinding noise while sorta power braking?

When I step on the brake and give it a little gas, it starts to make a griding noise. I'm not reving it up high, just around 1.5k or so. Is this normal? I thought it was until the best way to floor it thread popped up and someone said to "power break that sucka."

your brakes could just be worn out. there is a worn out brake indicator, where it makes a loud screaching noise either when you brake, or if its worse, do normal driving. if thats the case, you should check all your brakes and see which ones requires new brake pads, the brake pads are cheap ($20 pair), its just the brake disks that are expensive($60 each i believe?) if you need a new one or you can resurface for cheaper price.

Wait, what's the rock? It's a 99, white and stock...and tinted. What does your car look like? And why should I get rotors. It sounds like it's the engine or trasmission.

the noise you hear is normal, my car makes the same noise and I have performance brakes and rotors....it's just the normal noise from the pressure .....just don't do it too much on your car

if you are all worried about a bad tranny filter causing excessive heat in the tranny, why not just get a super monster size tranny cooler and be done with it. now if you want to get a tranny filter so that the coolant lasts longer and cleans better, get the filter!

i cant see powerbraking a forward wheel drive car giving you that much of an egde. doesnt that put extra pressure on like the torque converter or something?

I don't power brake. I was just using the term to describe the situation in which the noise was made. And powerbraking is bad for the car, but it does give you better 1/4 mile times no matter what wheels are turning.

just think of "power braking" as the cheap man's version of a high-stall torque converter
