Is this a good price?
I am looking at a 97 Green 3.0cl. It has 123k miles. The tranny is strong and had it checked by a certified mechanic. It had the timing belt and water pump replaced at 105k so the are new. It is in eccelent condition.
ABS, leath int, p/moonroof, pb, pdl, ps, tilt, A/C, pw, alloy wheels, air bags, p/seats, all power, am/fm cass, auto, cruise, fully loaded.
6000$? Hows that sound? Thanks guys

Really test the tranny out. Notice how it shifts driving normally - should be smooth. Then on an open road really punch it around 40mph and see what it does.
If you really hit it in 1st from a dead stop, around 40mph it will shift hard into second. That's considered normal from what I've read so don't let that freak you.
Good luck.

i got my 98 3.0cl for around 8000 with 62000, well thats because my dad new the guys at the dealership. plus my tranny went two weeks later, they had to fix it.
i would talk them down to 5000 that seems reasonable. go to kbb.com and punch it in under good and see what you get.

How good a car does the mechanic say it is? Let's say, "Great, nothing wrong." OK, so, say to the owner, "I want the car, but what's your very best price you're willing to offer?" THEN SAY ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, EVEN IF HE/SHE IMMEDIATELY SAYS THE SAME PRICE. WAIT!!!!!! Typically, if you wait, and don't jump in too soon, you'll hear, "The best I can do is..." If it's lower, calmly say.... "OK, I can do that."
NOW, if you'd be happy to pay the $6K and you would not want to lose the deal, and you need to close the deal, and it's been very hard finding other GOOD, CLEAN CL's, then be ready to pay the full price.
Good luck.

If not, subtract something from the price...

Part two. BTW, your age is not in your favor. Don't jump at the car, but don't be rude either. If you feel pressured AT ALL, walk. But, the fact that you were allowed to take the car to an independent mechanic (right?) is a very good sign the owner is confident. Did you start the car when it was dead cold? Any blue smoke at start-up? (Not good)
In general, these are great cars. Really. If you take car of it, you could easily get over 200,000 miles, without major engine work. You will want to have a dealer change/flush the transmission fluid, so have some cash on hand for maintenance.
Also, if the deal falls through, OK. There will be other nice CL's. Your best tool is being able to remain calm and not rush into a deal. I looked at 4 different CL's over a 50 miles radius before I got my '99.

Ask to be able to start the car first thing in the morning after it's sat all night. Have someone else do it, and see if ANY blue smoke comes out at start-up. If it does, the car is using some oil. Not good. A little white vapor if it's cool out is normal.
A lot of good guys turn Honda/Acura's around because they are so reliable and they often don't have to do much. See if he will give you two names of people who've bought cars from him. Run the VIN# on CARFAX.com (and call Acura USA at 800-382-2238). ACURA USA will tell you if there are any outstanding recalls on this car. The '97 EGR emissions system has an extended 14 year warranty, BTW.
Try to remain calm! If this isn't the right car, walk. Don't pay attention to, "Well, what do you expect for $6,000?" He probably got the car for a good deal less, and $6,000 is a LOT of money.
Come to think of it, CARFAX may tell you where he got it. From a dealer? A general auction?
Lastly (and sorry for going on and on), make sure CARFAX matches everything the seller says in terms of number of previous owners/accidents/mileage.
This guy could be totally honest and fair. If he is, and you remain polite, he won't mind letting you "kick the tires". Remember, he HAS to sell this car. You don't have to buy it. If it's THE ONE, great, but there will be others.

All things being equal, condition wise, I say the '97 with 91k. 30,000 less miles for only $500. more dollars... But of course at 100,000 you'll need to do a timing belt/waterpump job for about $500/$600.
Still, if the one with 91K checked out well with a good mechanic using a fine tooth comb, I'd probably go with that one. Does it have all the same trim (leather, etc?) How does it drive compared to the one with 127K?
Isn't buying a car fun!?

its more like almost 11 years old.. it came out in 96, 97, 98, 99, 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, and now the 06 cars are startin to come out. atleast this is how dealers appraise you car for trade in.. but when they sell you the same car its barley 9 years old.
