going to track....weight reduction?

hey guys... i'm going to the track (in alabama) on friday for the first time. i'm afraid that i'm gonna be the slowest of all my friends, but we'll see (Civic Si, Integra GSR, 240sx, Civic, M3, eclipse gst, 3000gt, etc.). some of them started taking out all their back seats and spair tires. how do i take out my back seat? i can't seem to find a clip or screw... what other ways can i make my car go a little bit faster? thanks alot! wish me luck. will post pics....

thanks fode,

u mean that the whole back seat just pops out? no screws or anything? i tried lifting the bottom of the backseat, and pulling on the back part, but it wouldn't budge. i didn't want to break anything so i quit.

f0de,

Just curious if this will realy lower ETs. I'm not questioning your suggestions, but I'm not sure if this will be enough weight reduction.

I removed my 55 lb speaker box, took out the spare tire, and 14 lb nitrous bottle, and some other non-essentials (total close to 100 lbs), and it did not reduce my ET at all.

Rick- I dont think it will help all that much until you take out a couple of hundred pounds. You should see some results then

Eat a light dinner tonight and don't eat until after your runs... That should make your car a couple pounds lighter...

Sorry- never took out my seats;

lol...... shit....... well, let me share a couple more techniques my friend taught me. dunno if they reall work or not. he said to get a ice pad, and put it on the intake manifold right before the race. he also told me to take out the right side marker light, to let more air in for the CAI. dunno if it works, but we'll see!

Take out the back seat, the passager seat, spare tire, your subs and amps, run w/ half a tank of gas, take some lax-X, take a big dmp, don't wear any shoes, dump the fat chick. You should be alright. J/K

take off the metal bumpers under ur body. remove ur turn signals where ur intake is put ice on the manifold to let it become cool. spare tire, front back seats. buy a racing seat for a day then return it and switch it with drivers seat. take out evrything on ur doors. take off power windows, locks, mirrors. oh yea if u didn't kno don't wear khakis wear jeans some places don't let u race if ur wearing clothes that will catch on fire easily. if u didn't kno that.

4 bolts.. i guess it dosn't matter to you guys when your running 15.59 or 15.62.. but if your stuck at 11.1.. i'd be ripping seats out.. weight reduction helps when its done right.. seats are a start.. your entire trunks a start.. after that.. get rid of the sound dentining.. then you could go on to the side moldings, carpet.. get a lighter driver seat.. after all that.. you'll lose atleast 300lbs

SCC did an article about a year ago where they tested wheel size and weight and their effect on speed. They got a professional driver in a Lancer to run laps and secretly added weight to the car. With no weight added the lap time was 1:03.7 @96.1 mph, with 100 lbs in the car it was 1:04.0 @95.8 mph, and with 250 lbs it was 1:04.7 @94.2 mph So the weight does make a difference but nothing huge with just 100 lbs removed. Well im assuming that removing weight would yeild similar results just in reverse correct me if im wrong please
