Front Speaker Install Question

I'm planning on getting some Alpine Type R components for up front and my question is, what kinda modifications am i looking at doing if i were to go with the 6 1/2's? or should I just stick with the 5 1/4's? Also, how do I even go about replacing the speakers? do i have to take off the whole door panel, or just the grill? thanks.

stick with the 5 1/4, and you will have to pull the whole door panel, pull the plastic plug near the top hinges, unscrew a few screws on the panel at the handle and opener handle then just pull the bottom of the panel away, then lift up the top to pull it off the lip of the door. loosening the inside door release may help a bit.

I dont know i think i would do the 6 1/2s. Everyone seems to say they fit with a few mods like cutting the basket and redrilling some mounting holes. I plan on 6.5s as soon as i get the money.

i just recently changed my front speakers, with the boston proseries, 6.5. alot of people said i would have trouble with the depth, but everything was fine. look for a post i started, i think its called "61/2's in the first gen". yah, you do have to take off the door panels, but its not that hard, putting em back on is a bitch though. look for that post, and a lot of instructions are on there. you should be cool though. good luck

6.5 kappas in my doors. They fit like a glove!! You will be happy with 6.5 over 5.25. I had to make no adjustments to get them to fit. Justa a pain to have to take the door all apart, and put back together,....

koo, maybe i'll go with those 6 1/2's once i get enough money. What amp do you guys think would be good to power the type r's? I need a good 4 ch. here are the stats:

The components: 40w rms, 150 peak
The 6x9's: 50w rms, 100 peak

I'm looking for a good, cheap amp thats about 50w rms but peaks like at 150. I found a hella cheap one by lightening audio, are they any good? also Profile amps, are those any good either?
