fitting a d2r bulb into a 9006 housing

I am thinking of setting up a d2r bulb into the factory housings, I was wondering if anyone has any info on this, pictures, a DIY guide, has a friend that did it, read it somewhere etc. I talked with VXCl and he gave me the asic idea behind it. Thanks again! But I just wanted a little more to help me visualize it.

Thanks guys!

You might want to go with bulbs from a Hid conversion kit look around on the net youll be able to find a set...it might be as much as d2r bulbs Im only doing this just incase one day i want to sell the cl i wouldnt have to replace the headlights. Plus i like the oem housing look like the Tl's. Im goin with this setup as soon as VXCL gets some ballasts in.

your kit completely changed the base of the d2r or d2s bulb. some kits actually leave the d2r/d2s connector. if u could get your hands on those bulbs then you could use any d2s/d2r ballast, but i have a feeling the bulbs would be $120+ a pair. an hr or 2 of your time is worth it not to mention those bulbs are going to be crap n e ways.

How hard would it be to install the d2s you use in the stock housing??

easy. just take the 9006 lock off with the 2 screws and the hole os already there. then fabricate a small piece out of sheet metal to hold the bulb in place and reuse the same screw mounts. simple mod for those with a dremel or similar tool and who like this kind of work.

I wouldn't say that the bulbs I have are crap, they have the same capsule as the D2R/D2S bulbs. I have a normal ballast, there is just a special cable made to accomodate the bulbs. It would be easy to just change that out. I'm happy with my setup. I had a friend drive by me, then we swapped and I drove his car by mine. No nasty glare or anything like that. I examined the bulbs again, the manufacturer did very nice job aligning the plates in the HID bulb to the exact same placement of the filament in the halogen bulbs. The light is pretty smooth, not quite as good as the OEM TL ones, but close. For what I paid + keeping my stock look, I'm happy.

what i meant is that no kit manufacturer has the quality and standards of philips or osram when they re base a d2r/d2s capsule. and very few actually use osram and philips bulbs to begin with. crap maybe kinda harsh, but u get the point.

I see your point. They looks very well made to me, but I guess only time will tell.

PS: I checked around a few sites, and there is a diff cable I can add if you guys finally talk me into some projectors and I need a standard D2S/D2R connector.

A large, proper sized washer works wonders. Make allowances on the inside of the washer for the locking "teeth" on the base, and make your 3 holes for the screws... dosent look too bad either.

In a 3.0, you'll want to pull the headlights out, cause on the passenger side the ABS motor is too close to the headlight, so it makes working on it a total bitch.

Be VERY CAREFUL when putting the screws back in, if you overtighten them by the slightest bit, you'll strip the threads in the headlight... I did that and had to fill them with epoxy and re-drill them and thread the screws in again. BIG SETBACK!
