Field VTEC controller installed... finally.

Hey guys... I finally got the Field VTEC/AFC installed last week. I dunno if it helps in performance... but the vtec definately kicks in now. I set it to kick in @ 4200 rpm so that when I shift, the revs stay in the vtec range. I also leaned out the injectors by 5% on all revs til around 6000 when I only take 2% off of the stock setting.

Another neat thing is that I can set the controller to beep once i hit my redline so that I can shift w/o lookin at the tach.

Next step is to get an Autometer air/fuel meter so that I don't blow up my engine running it too lean.

Oh and... the wiring diagram for the 2.2 is the same as the wiring for thee 97+ Preludes... NOT Accords (which i found very strange) My first attempt at installation cause my check engine light to come on. There is no VTM line for the 2.2 either.

Warning: "tuning" the engine without an A/F or EGT gauge is VERY DANGEROUS. You can't tell by the seat of your pants if it's too lean or rich until it's too late.

How much did you get the unit for?

Yea, I'm waiting for my a/f gauge. I figured 5% isn't that bad... and that's the setting most people have on their cars. I don't go below that.

I think someone is selling the same unit for $150 somewhere on thepartstrader.com.

Personally, I wouldn't touch the a/f mixture without some gauges. With my 2.5RS, I found that even with similar mods, everybody used a slightly different correction. Not every car is the same.

My 2 cents,

A dyno run would be the safest way to do it, but if you can get a passenger to help monitor gauges and adjust the SFC, you can tune it on the street as well. Just don't hit anything during those WOT runs!

I would go to a dyno....but... I don't think it's worth it to go w/ the mods I have. Maybe once I get a cam and a cam gear... i'll go... but not w/ just bolt on's. Need to get a FPR to be safe.

Go to advanced Auto Parts they can check the engine code and tell you what it means...will save you about 75.00
