extended warranty question (about the "BRAKE" light situation)

okay i took my car to the dealer yesterday to have them investigate (again) why the BRAKE light on my dash keeps coming on.

they look at it for a few minutes, and the service advisor guy comes out and says that they found out what was wrong with it, and that they will have to special order a part to fix it. he says "the part will be $8 and labor will be about $40."

then i asked if any of this was covered with my 100k extended warranty, and he says "oh, i'll go check..."

he comes back 20 minutes later and says "actually, no it isn't covered under the warranty, and actually the part is going to cost $27."

mmmkay... i asked why it wouldn't be covered (since i've had TONS of random stuff fixed using my warranty, and they've always covered everything... but that was at the dealer back in PA, i've never dealt with this one before). he says "ummm i'm not sure... i just put the part number into the website and it said it wasn't covered..."

i ended up paying the $27 just so they'd order the part... but the more i think about this, the sketchier it seems. the part is a sensor of some kind... on the bill they gave me, it says:

SENSOR TECH 11
AL 46662-S04-J01 CAP, RESE

why wouldn't this be covered under the extended warranty?? it doesn't seem like something that would be a "normal wear-and-tear" kind of thing... at least to me.

is there any way i could double check this?? i just don't really trust that service advisor guy i dealt with...

when were the last time your brakes were replaced. There is a sensor in them, when they get worn down and close to being replaced the brake light on the dash will remain on

Also I think there is a website to check your warranty coverage but I'm not that sure.

no that's not it... the brakes themselves are not the problem here, it's just this sensor.

and i'm not disputing what they're saying the problem is... my concern is that they're saying it's not covered under my warranty.

well they've taken care of EVERY problem i've ever had in the 1.5 years i've had my car... the only stuff i've paid for are obvious "normal wear & tear" type stuff. that's why i'm questioning this... because they've been really good about covering everything up until this point.

Just find a young mechanic on break, smile and wink at him and I bet he can fix your sensor once he gets out of work. My ex was good at manipulating horny mechanics

I had the same problem with my extended warranty...

At first they said it was my brake pads so i had to change them and it ended up being that the master cylinder had a tiny leak in it.

I dunno if they were lying or not but the light went off and i had to bitch at them to not charge me... I think that when it comes to brakes not every little part is covered.

is there another dealsership you can check, just go and ask if something like that would be covered. isn't there a number on the warranty agreement that you can call?

update...

today i finally tracked down the phone number for AcuraCare... so i could call to verify that replacing this part was NOT covered under my extended warranty, like the dealer told me. (i had an appointment for tomorrow morning to get this part installed by them, so i wanted to double check this ahead of time.)

i called up AcuraCare, gave them the part number, and OH what a surprise!! it IS supposed to be covered after all! so i called the dealer back and talked to the "service advisor" guy who said it wouldn't be covered. he says "oh... umm... well... when i looked it up online, i might've put in the wrong part number or something... those part numbers are really long..."

ummm okay, sure. then he says that he will need to reschedule my appointment (which was supposed to be tomorrow) for next Monday or Tuesday, when the "service manager" will be there... "since he usually handles the warranty stuff."

UGH i am getting sooo tired of dealing with the people at this dealership!! i had a bunch of service work done at the dealer back in PA that i always used to go to (Spitzer Acura)... and there were NEVER problems with the warranty stuff, or anything else for that matter. now, every time i've gone to this dealer down here, no one seems to have a CLUE what's going on!! soo freakin frustrating!

if you are really dissatify w/ them, i suggest you write a letter, email it to them and CC acuracare. they'll probably be nicer to you after that.

So, granted he has an ex, and that says something, what I'm not sure... But with that avitar, how are you going to jump his ass about his "manipulation" comment? Maybe you have some girly issues or some shit.

Anyway, as for the warenty, Acura Corporation has no final say over what a dealership must honor. If you bought the extended warenty from ACURA, you have to get them to reimburse you. If you bought it from the dealer, it is in the fine print that these types of repairs are at their descretion.

Good luck on the warrenty, but don't flaunt your ass if you don't want people to comment on it.

p.s. One of my best friends is a horny mechanic, and I am still married. LOL

LOL omg... i have girly issues?! that's a new one... anyway, all i was sayin before is that i hardly ever post in first gen, and when i do it's always cuz i have a very specific PROBLEM that i'm looking for advice on. if someone wants to make high-school-style comments about my avatar or my ass, they are more than welcome to do that in a PM or in ramblings or something... doesn't bother me a bit.

but in the past, it has been SO frustrating when one of my looking-for-serious-advice threads automatically gets turned into a leg-humping fest just cuz i'm a girl with an ass.

get it?

and as for the warranty... what you're saying still doesn't negate the fact that the dealer told me this part was NOT COVERED under my warranty -- they didn't just say that their specific dealer wouldn't cover it, they said that ACURACARE wouldn't cover it. and that is incorrect. the 'service advisor' guy made a mistake, and he acknowledged it... they said, if in fact it is supposed to be covered by AcuraCare, obviously i won't have to pay for the installation, and i will be refunded the $$ i already paid them for the part.

That's a bunch of bullshit, They're just dicking you around. Spitzer sounds way better than them. It's a shame you have to deal with that sucky dealership down there. I've only heard good things about spitzer up here. At least you caught them in the lie, and it's covered under acuracare, sucks you're getting the run around though.
