Exhaust on CLs

Acura told me that my exhaust was about to rust through and offerered me a price of $400 for a new one. Obviously I declined the offer So anyways Ive decided to buy an aftermarket exhaust for my 97 2.2. Im not sure if i was the whole cat back or just a muffler. I was wondering what your recommendations were for both. I dont want my CL to sound like a lawn mower, so dont suggest anything loud and obknoxious. Also, Ive heard a tanabe exhaust sytem and thought the sound was incredible. However im not sure if they are made for our cars. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm from Canada, and the local Acura dealership said it would cost me $400 for a complete new exhaust. $400 Canadian versus $400 USD??? That seems kind of crazy to me!! Check around

I really dont know the deal with exhausts for the CL's... ive heard that you buy the 94-97 accord exhaust and you have to add a piece of pipe to it or something. But i'm not totally sure... If you want something quiet, get an Apex-i World Sport... they are very quiet, but still have a deep tone which is not heard at all inside the car. The Greddy Evo is not as quiet, but no where near as loud as those universal mufflers.

typically, if its larger, more like your typical muffler they are quieter... and the small "can" mufflers are loud. Ive never heard a Tanabe... but if it seems like what you are looking for, go for it... I think someone on here has that exhaust, hopefully they'll see this and post a reply. If its for the CL, thats great... i'd go for it.

I have the Apexi World Sport cat back. It nice and deep but not too loud. I bought it for the 94-97 accord EX and it fine perfectly. Get the whole cat back, it will give you better gains. I got my whole catback for $450, but you can get it cheaper I'm sure.

The reason the Acura price is so high is because they use a double-layer pipe to reduce the interior noise level. Aftermarket stuff will be just single-layer, but you can increase the size of the resonator to compensate a little.

I think the info you're getting is for the Tanabe G-power or something that has a larger muffler body, therefore it's quieter. The Tanabe medallion (?) or any other small mufflers with the silencers are typically real loud. You can get a larger resonator if you want but If you're going to spend all the $$ just get the greddy SP or something. Or any of the other top-name brands for around $500.

The bigger the muffler the quieter it is.
