Engine noise

I just took my car into the dealer for the ignition and EGR recall. I also asked them to try to find out what the noise is that is coming from the drivers side of the engine compartment. When I was trouble shooting it, it sounded like it was coming from the intake. The service rep says that it sounds like it's coming from the tranny.

It's hard to describe the sound, but almost like a whirring sound that happens only when the car is at idle. When you give the car gas, the sound increases but then stops. It seems like something is loose and is rubbing, but I can't think of what it could be. I have about 67,000 miles on the car.

Do you guys think it's the tranny, valves or what?

I have something similiar, it almost sounds like a belt, when you give it gas it does it faster, but it only happens in park or neutral. I took it to my tranny guy and he doesn't think it's the tranny. When in neutral or park the tranny doesn't have a load on it so it's most likely not that.

I think it's my valves. I'm still waiting to get in to see my mechanic before I make a further decision.

I was thinking vavles also. But the dealer wants to charge an hourly rate for the valve adjustment and already told me that it was a "big job" that would take 4 hours.

Just got a voicemail from the dealer and they said that the noise is coming from the tranny. I have an extended warranty with AAA and they won't repair the tranny until something actually brakes. Now I don't know what to do.

Do you guys think I should have the tranny serviced or just wait until it brakes? Maybe I should just have Acura change the oil in the tranny as per the 60K mile severe service?

What do you think?

it cant hurt to change the fluid. do not repeat DO NOT GE IT FLUSHED. that disturbes all the crap in the bottom and causes it to get caught up in the valvebodies bad news. i would also check the hose comming from the pcv valve i know it sounds stupid. mine kind of humms. move te hose around and see if the noise changes pitch.

take the car out and break the tranny...

its always fun to do that... just start peeling out and do burn outs untill your car makes a loud boom noise.. and doesnt move anymore..

I was thinking the same thing! I just need to make sure that the AAA (extended warranty) will cover the tranny.

I had all of my fluids flushed by a BG rep and yes you are right about all the crap at the bottom but he flushed and cleaned it and took all that lumpy nasty stuff out of the car all together.

there is places in ur tranny that sludge gets weged and wont come out. did u have it flushed within the past like 3 mos. if so i would say ur valvebodies are stuck. they have really close tolerances and are very sensitive to dirt. have u checked the pcv yet?
